Hi as your hose is an adult you will show him in a bridle a snaffle will do unless he's used to a peham or a double. You must have a caveson noseband, not a drop or anything The noseband may be a raised stitched one or a flat plain one, whichever suits his head best. Also make sure the noseband is in the right place to flatter his head. Good luck

If you don't have an in hand halter/bridle, I would use your normal bridle and take the reins off. Then, get a coupling for your bridle - this attaches to the two bit rings and goes under the horses chin. Use a nice lead rope/rein attached to the coupling to lead your horse with. You can get a coupling fairly cheap from your local saddler. Plus, using your bridle means you have the bit for some extra control, just in case you should need it!. Good luck at the show. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

A drop noseband is one that goes underneath the bit rather than above it. A caveson noseband is a plain one that just goes around his nose above the bit.
He shouldn't really be shown in a dutch gag inhand, do you have a snaffle you could put him in for the show?

Please do not take the reins off your bridle, this is totally incorrect with an adult horse. No, sorry you can't use a gag, can you borrow a snaffle bit from someone? Don't worry about a drop noseband, you obviousley don't use one so that's ok

Please do not take the reins off your bridle, this is totally incorrect with an adult horse. Specialsparkle3, surely if this is in hand, you do not want a pair of reins flapping about and the horse should be lead off of a single rein? Might be wrong, but in my experience, this has been the case.

adult horses should always be shown with reins, only youngstock are shown on couplings. Take a look at any adult riding pony, hunter etc class at county level. Plus its a bit inpractical at a show to be swapping bits and couplings and bridles as I know lecky will be doing ridden classes too He should really be in a snaffle a dutch gag is not really something you should show inhand in even at local level.

Yep, definately reins for a horse 4 years old or over in a ridden bridle. Couplings should only be used with inhand bridles on youngsters.

Only adult stallions are shown wearing an in hand bridle with a lead rein.
