No the human test is not the same, if you really want to know you will have to have a blood test, -----the blood test in later pregnancy, is far more reliable than the early one. I must say, without meaning any disrespect, if you are not willing to spend £40 on finding out an important thing like this, you may be in for a shock financially if and when she does foal.

Once you know one way or the other Thelwell, at least it will set your mind at rest, and you may find she is not in foal after all so you will have less to worry about. at any rate, ifshe is you have to include her in your budgeting. Could you not find a couple of part time jobs, i.e bar work----you must find it difficult when your ponies are at livery, could you do odd jobs for the Y.O.? I hope things will get better for you in 2006 Good luck.

I had blood tests done on two mares to check if they were in foal The actual costs each were: vet fee for blood test 12.34 +VAT labratory fees 18.30 +VAT
Call out (had vet out to do 6 things inc vaccines) 24.55+VAT
Total- 64.85
(sat here with the itemised bill infront of me)
65 pounds isnt that bad IMO, well worth the money to know if a mare is definately in foal or not. Especially as there can be a huge amount of money needing to be payed out for vets bills during/after foaling. Just a question did you try to get her in foal?

Oh dear. If she is in foal, then you are in for a dodgy few months financially!
By the time you've had the blood test, had her vaccinated for EHV, her post foaling check - and all this is assuming she & foal are healthy, stay healthy & have no problems.
