Well, we've been as much hacking as possible lately, in the hope of pushing the horses a little bit further out of their "comfort zones"! I think we certainly achieved that on this hack, by the bucket load!
I'm not sure which way our spook-busting training will go after that hack.....i did worry that the whole experience was perhaps a bit TOO scary for them all in one go, and that they're confidence levels would slip a bit (cos the world is a very spooky place).
But, then again, the hack could also have proved to them that all the stuff they encountered wasn't in fact as scary as they first thought!
We haven't hacked out since (we're going out tonight), so we'll soon see! Hopefully, we'll have chilled, relaxed horses who don't even flick an ear at anything......you never know! ;D

Will do, though it looks like it's going to rain here at the moment! Fingers crossed.....the wierdest thing is, though, that 6 months ago, i would have totally lost my bottle after that hack, and never ventured off the yard again for months! Now, I can't wait to get out again! Confidence is a strange and fragile thing!

Well, valtoonsnco, we hacked out again tonight, and did the same hack. The boys behaved impeccably, i was sooooo prooud of them. The hay balers and the big black plastic wrapped bales weren't there this time, but all the other spooky stuff was.....Archie led all the way, and didn't put a foot wrong! He even led past the pile of housebricks and builders bags, which he's never been able to lead past before! What a star! We literally came face to face with a tractor on a single track bridle path, and he even coped with that, bless him (mind you, i did let him graze for a minute while it passed, which made him very happy - he's a typical cob and always thinks of his belly first!)
We had a minor spook when a man on a cycle came shooting out of a very overgrown bridle path, but the cyclist spooked me as much as he spooked Archie! I actually laughed at this spook, cos Archie just kind of jumped with all 4 feet , and landed in the same spot, and i Just had this mental image of a horse doing the riverdance, which really made me giggle!
Oh, i love hacking....and i never thought I'd hear myself saying that! When are we going out again......? ;D
