Hi,
Just out of interest what breed would you say is best crossed with a TB?
MY friend has a TB mare and was asked what I thought about crossing her with an Arab. She has an Arab gelding who is semi retired and is an Arab fan, as I am too. However I don't think TB x Arab would be a good cross, what do you think? Another suggestion was a coloured cob, I personally like Welsh Sec D and think this would be a much better cross for a TB?
This is all hypothetical at the moment.

But if you want brains you wouldn't do better than an Arab!

Yes I thought something with more bone too, and not as firey as an Arab.
I have always wanted an Arab, had an Arab X NF mare who was lovely, but something says to me TB X Arab would be trouble!

i guess it depends what you are wanting to do with it, i quite like arab x TB, but i reckon a heavier breed x TB will probably make a better horse,

It all depends on what you want. I've had a TB x Welsh, who was 15.2 with 9 inches of bone and had a very generous nature. I've also had on loan a Clydesdale cross TB who was 16.2 with lots of bone (never measured). I used to say she had a TB brain in a Clydesdale body.

I'd have to say I'd either have a TB crossed with a Welshie (intelligent, hardy, good doers, great feet, bit of the old pony blood in there, bit of arab blood there as well in the welshie breed)....
or
The good old Irish Draught,..

Depends what you want to do with it! Anglo arab is a good cross for competition horses, showing, a very recognised cross. Welsh x TB is poplar, if you get TB top with Welsh bottom, but I have seen the other way round which was a disaster. TB x Conemara sounds pretty good. TB x ID - another hunter type. Heavy horse x TB - heavy weight hunter, dressage horse, propably not fast enough for eventing, although some do novice/riding club. Harry Llewylln (whohad the original Foxhunter) always had TB x Suffolk for his hunters. Any "warmblood" breed already has lots of TB blood, so you will get a refined warmblood.
