Just wondering if anyone had come across this product, and if so, how they got on with it Apparently it is effective for bleeders and also for headshaking.

mmm found one or two positive replies on this site : www.horseshealth.com/faq.htmlThere actual website is www.performancepatches.co.uk/clients.htm. First I've heard of them and thought that they were similar to nicotine patches for adults (which I gave up after 2 weeks along with the cigerettes !) but apparantly : "Unlike human patches there is no chemical action on or within the body of the horse and no substance enters or is metabolised in the body and most importantly there are no banned substances. The patented non-dissolvable pill containing sodium, potassium and magnesium is all that is in contact with the horse. (In effect this pill is a sealed electrolyte)" It would be interesting to hear if anyone on this site has used them to good effect or what the side effect's are.

If there is no chemical action on or within the body - what is the action?

That's my question too Anna! Apparently they trick the body into thinking it is surrounded by electrolytes and that causes the cell signalling to be switched on/rebalanced resulting in capilliary growth. The capilliary growth lowers blood pressure, hence the treatment for bleeders.
They have a pill for humans too to treat high blood pressure which is again encased in a polymer that does not dissolve. That is about to go into clinical trials so there should be some definitive data from those at some point.

Will be interesting reading. I'm open to the concept - I mean, magnets don't have a chemical action in or on the body either, but they can obviuosly effeect the action of cells. We only survive by the movement of ions - I think it sounds weird because it is encased -so it sounds like it can't get be got at. Interesting.

The inventor has given me some references to check them out. One is Richard Maxwell so it will be interesing to see if he's found them useful. He's also sending me some samples so I'm going to try them on a horse that windsucks and a horse that is a headshaker. The ones for horses are simply two capsules that stick onto the horse's rump. You leave them on for 24 hours and apparently that is sufficient to treat headshaking for a season. It will be interesting to see. If nothing else, the glue on the patch might have an interesting application in bandages/plasters for horses!

Hi June, if you go to Max' site which is richard-maxwell.com he has a link to the the Performance Patches website. You could also use his own site to ask him about the patches, how they work etc and how they are used.
