Drat link dosn't work! Here's the story
WAYNE Rooney is buying Coleen McLoughlin a £70,000 HORSE for Christmas. The England soccer ace hit on the idea after his 19-year-old fiancée started taking riding lessons.
Rooney, 20, had been racking his brains about what to get her — and decided to splash out the giddy sum on a top-notch steed so she can take to the saddle in style.
Last night a source close to the couple said: “He’s a real romantic at heart and just wants her to feel special.
“It sounds a lot of money, but this is a top horse. It is a type known as a ‘schoolmaster’ — trained to the very highest level. It is basically an all-singing, all-dancing beast.”
Experts rate the schoolmaster as a extra-safe ride — and our mock-up on the left shows how supershopper Coleen might look in the saddle.
But she will have to wait until after Christmas for her first ride.
The pal revealed: “The horse isn’t going to be delivered until the New Year. But Coleen will be over the moon.”
Coleen has been taking riding lessons with her close pal Dawn Ward for the past six months.
Property developer Dawn, 31 — who owns 11 horses — was the mastermind behind the celebrity couple’s new £3.5million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire.
Generous ... Wayne splashed out on gift
Coleen and Manchester United striker Rooney moved in only last weekend.
But The Sun understands the new horse will not be kept there. Dawn is thought to be helping to arrange stables.
Last night the British Horse Society explained just what kind of mount Coleen is getting.
A spokesman said: “A schoolmaster horse is basically one that has been fantastically trained.
“It’s been everywhere, done everything and would teach a rider how to do something because it does it so well itself.
“You’re talking about a horse that has been around for quite a few years and it could be an eventing schoolmaster or a showing schoolmaster.
“A grade-A showjumper or an advanced eventer could cost megabucks.”

Well, that's mega-chav, that is.
Not that I'm being cynical or anything, but if the poor horse is that well trained then it sounds like an utter machine to me, poor thing. I wonder what it thinks about, or if it has any opinions? I might have the wrong end of the stick about schoolmasters, of course, but I still can't help thinking that the silly woman would learn more if she took on a good natured but opinionated cob (or quarter horse, cough cough) that would make her work to earn its respect. Mine cost me 2.5k, he's taught me more in four months than I've learned in my entire life and I wouldn't sell him for any money.

well I expect it was picked with her in mind, sounds like she has an experianced friend to help her and I bet it will go to a ritzy full livery. Although I hate to think what she bought for that much! she could have found a nice safe been there done that cob with winnings for 5k! and then got a sporty horse.

I'd rather have my £2K 14 year old ID x TB gelding and NOT have to sleep with Wayne Rooney

Im with smudge, Id far rather have my 2k ex racer non schoolmaster and loan ex eventer. (Ill bet Collen's new horse doesnt sit on cars or let itself out the stable!! ) and you couldnt pay me enough to sleep with Wayne rooney!! (well maybe a few million)

I might be cynical, but it makes me wonder just what he has been up to to spend that much!! Lol Smudge, although I am a little too long in the tooth for Wayne Rooney I think!

lol Smudge!! I agree with Finn. I used to ride a 14.2hh bomp-proof mare. She was absolutely fantastic and really looked after me, but it has only been since buying my 16hh TB ex-racer that I have really learnt to ride, and i have become a much better rider.
I imagine it will be well looked after though so good luck to them.

£70K's probably nothing to him. That's probably what he earns in a week!

I'd guess that at least £65K has been wasted on things she didn't actually need in a first horse such as breeding, competition points and lord knows what else. Different world innit

It is OTT a nice fat hairy cob would do LOL esp considering she's just started riding but if you've got the money.. Wonder if it'll turn into another Madonna incident what happened to the horse she fell off? is slightly worrying to think how these amazing horses end up, it's no different than say me buying a 16hh fancy Arab after a 2 year break from riding and failing LOL (would never happen! love my cobs!)
