Ok here we go. My young horse absolutely hates beyond belief working when its cold to the point you really cant get much out of him he just is terrible. So I thought simple put an exercise sheet on but oh no he doesnt like them at all. Now rugs they are fine but not exercise sheets, he doesnt like the way they move! So I have been looking around at different things and have found the "!Rambo Walker Waterproof ". Its like a rug but with the shoulder and part of the front cut away. The surcingles are there and everything else like a rug. So my brain starts thinking bar checking the saddle fits etc. could this be a feasible compromise. From reading these rugs are for horses when they are on walking machines. They are not really cheap so am a bit worried about buying one and finding I have missed an obvious problem. So really my questions are has anyone tried to ride in them? and can anyone foresee any obvious reasons why you shouldnt ride in one if the saddle fits ok still? OR has anyone got any other suggestions on this. Many thanks.

I wonder if it's the sound of the waterproofness that he doesn't like with an exercise sheet? Our Beckham sometimes gets a bit spooky when he's wearing his and Mazz thinks it's because of the noise it makes. I have just been looking at the Rambo Walkers and thought they looked good, can't see why it wouldn't work and/or fit under a saddle. If not could you redesign a fleece cooler or similar along the lines of an exercise sheet (using your redundant one as a pattern?) and make your own?

thank you esme for your reply. Its interesting to read what you say. The exercise sheet I have been using is made of cotton so doesnt make a noise, but you have made an interesting point as no doubt the rambo walker will wont it! argh now then that might be a problem! What your saying about making one is really interesting and might be a cheaper option. I might have a look at some stable rugs and could have a chop at one of them. I think the problem with the exercise sheet is it lifts a bit in wind and oh heavens forbid you would think someone is beating him with a stick!!! Thank you esme.

You can get a Equifleece quarter-sheet that does not go under the saddle (and thus affect the fit) but attaches with clips to the Ds on the back of the saddle. It is not quite a large as a rug of course because it is what it says "A quarter sheet" which covers the quarters.
I thought I might get one as putting on a full exercise sheet under the saddle is always a bit of fiddle.

I've got the full length Equafleece exercise sheet - the one which goes underneath your saddle et al and it is great. Couldn't get my head around a fleece being waterproof but it is, so that was an added bonus. It is lovely and soft, extremely hi viz and Bobby who can be daft at lots of things has no issues with it at all. I couldn't recommend them enough.

Another Equifleece fan I've had mine for several years, it washes brilliantly, has never flapped even in windy weather & is quite thin so doesn't really alter the fit of the saddle. My only complaint at first was the price but now I think it's worth every penny.

I have an equafleece quarter sheet-it's brill! You can ride with a thin rug under the saddle, but over the numnah, and then tuck the bit that fastens at the front of the chest under the saddle flaps, if that makes sense!

Happy Christmas all! Bought the Rambo waterproof horsewalker rug because my 22 yr old is on controlled( wish someone would tell him!) walking exercise due to very bad tear in check ligament. It does not flap-is very close fitting-but on my horse it is tight around his lower neck.So I reckon if I was riding him in it -it may restrict when he lowers his head. There are a lot of waterproof exercise sheets on the market. good Luck Pamxxxxxxxxx
