Has anyone had Gavin out to treat their horse? Does he still treat?
what did you think to him and would you use him again? what sort of dent to my bank balance am I looking at if I can get him out?
Sorry for all the questions folks, trying to weigh all options before getting someone out to my TB.

Yes, Gavin does still come out to treat horses, as I know he is due to visit my previous yard in the middle of January. I haven't used him myself, and have heard mixed reactions - some good and some not so good. I don't know how much he charges, but expect that others on here will have that information. I tend to stick with the equine physio that my vet recommended when my TB had a muscle injury.

He came to treat my daughter's pony when he was showing signs of suffering from some back problems.
He still treats horses - came to my yard just a few days ago.
I really liked him, he is very quiet and extremely gentle with horses and has this aura of being able to feel the horse or see what it's thinking (this is quite much from me as I usually don't believe in AC or anything like that). He also explains everything to you in much detail if you want to listen. If he feels you don't want things explained, he just treats the horse and that's it.
The treatment doesn't necessarily last for long - he listens to the horse and only does it until the horse says it's enough, which is quite soon (!).
The pony definitely improved from Gavin's treatment, but I didn't carry on but only because my vet studies acupuncture and wanted some case studies, so I got it all for free! So, he had a few acupuncture treatments and that more or less sorted the problem - since then, I haven't had the money to get Gavin over again.
I paid £40 I think for one treatment, but the call-out charge was covered by someone else at the yard (I think it was £10-£15 but cannot be sure.)
I would definitely have him treat my horses again.

Being completely honest, I think Gavin is lovely, like a happy ray of sunshine visiting the yard. On the treatment for my horses I wasn't impressed. I had an Arab that was bucking, and he said that he had a "remembered pain" down his shoulder, but that he was fine and to ride. After the said Arab threw my hubby really badly a few days later he was checked over by a chiropracter and physio and found to be in considerable discomfort down that shoulder. He needed substantial treatment before he could be ridden. Gavin also examined Fire and pronounced that she was just a bit stiff and would be fine. See the Cry a River thread on the General forum.

The jury is out for me on this one. I've had him treat my horses a few times but can't say I've ever seen a difference afterwards. But I know several people who think he has made a major difference to their horses. Having had the chiropractor who works with Mark Rashid treat my lot recently and noticed an amazing difference I suspect I won't be using Gavin again.

I think it is like with any therapy / therapist; some find it helpful, some don't. If only the horses could tell us!
I personally would never have a chiropractor treat myself or my horses, but I am all for osteopaths and any other gentler treatments. This is only because of personal experience and research, but again, several people and horses have been helped by them, so...

I use Gavin regularly for my own and clients horses and have had some terrific results, one bucking Arab who went from can't take a saddle to riding after one treatment and a short period of rest this horse has received one further treatment since and is being ridden successfully by his owner in all paces. We find our own horses see Gavin about once a year for check ups. With clients horses following vet approval Gavin treats a horse until it is maintaining the improvement from visit to visit. Gavin visits about every three/four months as being a training yard new horses are coming in regularly. What I find is his approach is honest and straightforward and if a horse does not need treating he says so. He charges £40 per horse treated no charge if the horse is just checked and a visit fee of £35 to the yard, this is usually split for our owners. Personally I find him quiet around the horses, personable, knowledgeable and one of those people who is good to be around. Hope this helps.

What is he? (I mean, I'm guessing he's human and a man, but what type of therapist?)

He trained as a cranial osteopath.

Yup, hes an osteopath who trained at the European School of Osteopathy. The Cranial osteopathy field is a postgraduate course. I am lead to believe he works alot with cranial, but also treats more on a spiritual level too.

cranial work is SO powerful. I use a little bit but would love to learn more. I don't think you can treat cranially without getting involved in energy/spiritual effects. The osteopath I work with has done some work on me - very intense. It is on my list for next year to expand my skills - even the bits I use are getting amazing results (so much to learn, and I am impatient to do it all NOW!)

Mark R brings his own chiro with him, Dr Dave Siemens. He treated lots of horses at the last clinic and made an amazing difference to them. He visits our yard each time he is over and does our polo ponies.
