Mine can only get a couple of days a week as i need to ride her as much as possible and the only other choice is to put her in the MASSIVE meadow type field that has a river in it which often overflows. Just last week we all had to free a horse that had got stuck in th middle and i dont fancy going down there in the dark every night to ride her. She has turnout in the arena everyday and ridden most days, then turned out for the day at weekends.

P.S I find it great that i have the choice of fields and amount of turnout she has as at my last TWO yards, there was no winter turnout at all! Gosh, i could never go back to that!

Didnt really know how to vote lol All of mine bar two live out. One is my stallion, who due to his field being invaded by mares has to take daily trips up the road for turnout. He goes out for 3-4 hours a day and is worked daily (not ridden at the mo). the other is the new girl who is in 24/7 til her health issues are worked out and the vet feels she could cope with a cold night out. She also has wounds and coat that needs treating so putting her out and not being able to catch her is an issue!

Mine are kind of out 24/7! I say kind of, as they live out, but in extremes of temperature (hot, cold, wet, windy, excess grass, no grass) we bring them in to warm up/cool down/deflate/feed up etc for a couple of hours, and usually combine this with their exercise. I tend to bring them in, poo pick round the fields, then exercise them, then turn them out - with hay ready for them in the field if the field is low or the weather is bad.

24/7/365 they come in if they want to and hopefully keep warm by eating loads of hay.

Rio could be out 24/7 if I wanted, but for various reasons she comes in at night, the main one being that no hay is put out in our fields so she'd end up very hungry and lose too much weight.
Gem is out 24/7 with hay and a field shelter but I fetch her into Rio's stable during the day if it's been frosty as a laminitis precaution.

we just have to give ours what we can the last two winters we turned all ours out by day and in at night. This year we have four our 24/7 including our stallion and our poor we mare and foal at min are in as no where to turn them out just yet. But we are going to start and alternate the stallion and mare and foal so they can get out for a few hours a day. and when the foal is a bit bigger we can walk her with her dam up to the other field every day with out having to disturb the stallion.

I'm pretty lucky as being the first livery at this yard last year (not counting the neighbours), I pretty much decided that mine would go out all day whatever the weather. They have their own winter paddock (fields rested for 3 months). All the other liveries who have arrived in the mean time have to share the other paddock on rotation for 1-2 hours/day and don't get turned out at all if the weather is bad (like now). This said, I wouldn't want mine to spend 24/7 in the paddock as because of it's heavy use it's completely churned up and I do want them to be out of the mud at night at least.

Sula loves coming in at night to a big deep bed, net full of haylage and feed.

Mine both like to come in at night & Maisie gets very stroppy if she is left out too long during the day (even though she gets hay out). Mine are both fully clipped & well rugged but like to come in
