hi I just wanted to say a quick thank you to the ladies who recommended tea tree oil. The farrier came on Thursday and trimmed away all the crap from her hooves, I applied tea tree oil yesterday morning and this afternoon they were smelling good and the frogs were definitely harder. Thanks again!

I tried to get peroxide from Boots but they don't do it any longer. I bought some at the pharmacy at Sainsburys instead, it was just on the shelf.

You can buy Borax in packets from Boots. It is applied diluted, 2 tablespoons to a gallon of water. You can soak th efoot in it for 10 mins initially and then spray it on a couple of times a week using one of those plant misters.
Be careful using things like tea tree oil as oil causes the horn to go crumbly after a while. Tea tree oil is a good antiseptic but oil is detrimental to horn.

Re the Tea Tree and oil having a detrimental effect on horn - you can buy tea tree gel from aromesse.com (I think that's their web address).

Gel would be a much better option assuming it is water based.
