Can anyone tell me if they know of a product that I can put on my horses new zealand rug as he comes in every day with new tears.

My horse does this all the time and I've come to the conclusion that I need a rug made out of chain - like divers wear when swimming with sharks. Ha-Ha.
I've not found a solution yet but I get mine repaired locally which is a help and I never pay over £100 for a rug cos the same would happen to it. It does get better the more she wears them though.
Good luck.

Is the rug torn by other horses, or do you have barbed wire fencing?

Hamish has several rips, and I have stuck duct tape on them. Perhaps not the best soultion, but will do until I can get to the shop for a new one (snowed in!)

Stormseal - it's a glue used for tents and suchlike and works superbly on rugs! Get it off ebay cheaper than the shops and it works a treat!

Does Styormseal stop them having a go at each other or is it just for repair. The problem I have is that they just play the whole time and I want something to put on the rug to deter them from getting hold of ir

Vanessa I'm having just the same problem at the moment. I did try putting anti-crib spray on the rug & that helped a bit but I had to redo it every other day & every time I touched the rug my hands tasted of it no matter how much I washed them Do you have an old tatty rug you could put over your good one? At least then they only ruin an old one!

The stormseal just repairs the rug, i have used a disgusting spray before, think it was called 'no bite'? Definitely stopped them biting but goddamnawful if you manage to inhale some yourself!

Hi
My horse would need a new rug every 4 weeks if i didint do this i have and old rug when he comes in with a rip i cut a patch out of the old on and stick if over the tear with fabric glue from woolworths i find it ends up looking a bit like a patchwork quilt but does the trick well.
goodluck

Belle tends to get her bum nibbled by her boyfriend and ends up with holes in her rugs. I have got a tatty old lightweight rug that I put on top of her mediumweight rug. I don't care if the lightweight gets ripped more and it protects the mediumweight rug.
