Hi Guys
Sorry for the long post, but I'm after reasurance!
My boy has a small cluster of sarcoids on the inner left thigh, which until recently I was leaving alone as they were not bothering him. Unfortunately the leg strap on his rug caught on the biggest and pulled it off, so as they had been disturbed and everything I read suggested that this could often be a catalyst for more to grow I thought I would start getting them treated - homeopathically, as most of the 'traditional' medicine for sarcoids seems to be fairly unpleasant.
After 4-5 months of treatment - Tub Bov (6 pills per day) and Thuja (6 tablets per day) we are about to stop Tub Bov and start of a new one Lycopodium (6 tablets per day) - the cluster is bigger and I think a new sarcoid is forming on his front leg, just below his 'arm pit' (what is the official name for that bit of the horse?). He does not seem to be bothered by them and they are not interferring with his movement or tack, so it is not a huge problem yet - but I would like to stop it becoming one!
Has anyone had sarcoids successfully treated homeopathically? I have had other successess with other pets, but this is the first time with Red and I am getting a little bothered that they seem to be increasing rather than decreasing!

Hi sarah, a friends horse had around 30 all over him had been treated homoeopathically and conventenally with no improvement.
I looked into his rems he wanted much higer doses and potentcies than he'd been given plus a few extra remedies I checked with a homoeopathic vet that it was ok to go ahead, after 4 months he was down to 3 which went over the next few months, the extra rems were needed as we found the cause of why he had them hence treated them and the cause.
Would be happy to chat about it if you want to.

has your horse or your son ("boy") got a problem ? it really irks me when horse owners anthropomorphize and denigrate horses by referring to them in human terms. equally i find it pitiful when humans are called "stallions", "bitches", etc.
Horses and humans should be referred to by their correct terminology and not by innapropriate terminology which often sprouts from the mouths of misguided and totally maladjusted people.

Are sarcoids cancerous? And if so are they life threatening? And if not, if they're just like a wart on your finger why the big worry, can't they just be left alone?
By the way Nell.. I've got a lovely boy

To my knowledge they aren't cancerous but are frowned upon in vetting etc. Also they can appear in annoying places such as the girth area.
Its a virus so most horses that have them tend to have a bit of a run down immune system.

For info on her (and the rest of us!) go to www.isaap.com, I'll write more in a few hours with suggestions on how we got a big one to drop off overnight, but I've just looked at the clock and seen I'm going to be late for a DR app!!! Funny weeping eyes...lovely!!!
I'll be back!!!

A friend of mine had a horse with one on his thigh and decided to treat it when the leg strap made it bleed. It took a few months of treatment and during this time a new large one grew between his front legs. They both eventually fell off and there are no scars. The one between his front legs grew to about 2 inches long and she made her OH spend over an hour looking for it in the field! She now has it pickled in a jar - yuk! Her treatment was homeopathic.

Hannah - does your friend bring her 'pickled' one out to show people at parties?!? It's good to know that they dropped off with no scars!
Thanks from me and my boy!!

I'm back!!!!
Damn male doctors!! Decided to ask him about contraception and pils etc, wanted to know longitudinal effects of not giving your body a break from them and how it effect fertility......couldn't give me any more answers than whats in the 'doctors side stepping questions handbook' !!
Never mind!!!!
Ok, Sarah, lets start!!!!
I've looked up what we did for this woman and her horse who had a massive one on her inside back leg:
13mg Red clay: Rich in iron, detoxifying
chickweed base oil 5 drops
St John's wort macerated oil 5-7 drops
You could also add bergamot or angelica root as they are both phototoxic too.
Gradually add water with clay and mix into a paste. Then cover the scarcoid.
Because it contains phototoxic chemicals avoid using in direct sunlight and cover area if let out into field in sunshine.
If you look on the website and see someone practising near you it would be worth calling them out because some of these oils are hard to get hold of, at least in their puriest form.
A really good website for them in a France based one www.florihana.com
But delivery may take longer than you want. Other than that there are plently of UK based site, but I know the French one does very pure oils.
IMPORTANT: Before you apply the clay to the horse let it sniff it, if it shows interest you can proceed but if it turns away and moves off dont put it on, we work on the basis of self selection and that the animal knows exactly what it wants, so they're your best guide! You may even find they want to take it orally and will lick lots of it rather than have you apply it.
Hope you see some good results!!

Any other questions dont hesitate to ask!

Hi Keira
Thanks for that - wow - lots of detail! Endless questions ... Do you know whether it would be likely to interfere with the homeopathic treatment he is having? And is this going to be a systemic solution or would I have to do it to other sarcoids as they appear?
I checked out the isaap website and there is a practitioner in Stroud - which is not far from us, so I will contact her later to see whether she can help.
thanks for your help!
ps. I guess you can't expect male doctors to understand female concerns - it has ever been thus!!

Where abouts are you based? Cos I'm in Ross on Wye, is that nearer?
It wont affect the homeopathy, at least not to a noticable degree.
The oils work in a very physical way but also about rebalancing the body so you may find a second outbreak less likely because they start a chain of events internally like boosting the immune system to fight the virus which starts sarcoids in the first place.
Most sarcoids respond well to radio therapy which is where the phototoxic oils help, because they react with the light rays.
Hope this is all helping!!!
