Take the PH value of the dung each day - if it changes to acidic - then a laminitis attack may occur within 48 hours

Your horse may seem to be a bit slow and not want to move very quickly. Any sign of this should be treated with caution!
He may not like his feet picked out.
He may shuffle his weight from foot to foot and just look uncomfortable.
Don't rely on thinking there will be heat in the feet. This is not always so.
Feel the digital pulse. If you don't know where it is, learn quickly and practice finding it until you could do it blindfold.
If the pulse has a hard, bounding, hammering beat to it, treat as laminitis and call the vet.
Sometimes a farrier can tell if there signs of pink in the hoof.
A horse can be lame in one, two, three, or all four legs.
Hope this helps.

I know my horse is borderline when the fatty crest of her neck becomes very hard. She always has a crest, even when the rest of her is slimline.

If you ask the pony to trot down hill on a hard surface it will be very obviously lame.

Also swelling at back of leg and lameness appearing to originate from the shoulder. As well as swelling at the crest it is sensitive to touch and the horse will pull away if this area is manipulated.
