I found this article that has been written by Joyce Harman, you might be able to get hold of a copy by emailing them?
Cushings Disease in Horses, an Autoimmune Condition? Proceedings of American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, 1999. www.altvetmed.com

Holly, can I ask what homeopathic treatment you give her for cushings?
I can only recommend you take a look at Jackie Taylor's site (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheMetabolicHorse) and especially the files on there. Full of well researched information.

Hi Jenny the article was very informative thankyou.
Hi Val
Haven't got Kays rems all to hand at present but al the ones she is on all coinside with her symtoms. She choooses them herself (used to help a vet by doing this so its very accurate and good results)she chooses from lists of about 6,000 different ones. However...on the article it mentions some ones for cushings that aren't on my lists (hence she can't choose them)so I shall run them by her and order them if requested.
Thanks heaps both of you this really is very imformative.
Am also phoning a holisticvet friend of mine to see what he recommends.

Thanks Val. Yes Holly there is a homeopathic remedy being trialled. The vet Mark Elliot claims a 90% success rate, but that is largely on clinical response, and we tend to do confirmatory blood tests. Mark was hoping to start a fully funded trial with bloods this year. I tried his remedy on two horses without success. Vitex tincture is proving pretty effective for a large number of cases, but not all, again I have one mare on whom I tried both, and though they helped she needed pergolide in the end.
Dietary management is also pretty critical - join us on the group for more detailed info.
And thank you Jenny for that link...you've given me an idea for my horse, who appears to have a non-pituitary cushings.

Hi Jackie would it be possible to contact by email so we can discuss things as I'd be very interested in the trail and getting in touch with Mark and also specking with yourself.
My addy is martinshillfarm@aol.com
In the meantime I'm going to toddle off and run these other rems by her.
