that doesn't read up on the whole thing and know it inside out??? There are so many BF threads on here with a huge range of opinions but I am happy to pay my EP to do all the hard work and I simply do what she tells me to do. Its not that I don't care but I can't get excited about the technicalities so just do what I am told. As long as G is happy and sound then all is well for me. I just wondered if there were any other 'lazy' bf owners like me!!

I listened politely to the EP today and I hope I nodded in the right places. I really appreciate the information and the explanation and I agree with almost all of what I can understand, but it is his job to know how much zinc is bound up in a supplement and how much is available to be used, not mine.
I can see the improvement in my horses's feet after his trims and following his dietary advice (almost to the mg), so I am very pleased.
I'm glad there are three of us as least, my husband was the only one that I knew previously.

I just know the basics and trim my horses' feet myself with the numbers of a couple of trimmers if I need any help. I can't say I will ever be a barefoot anorak although I am glad there are quite a few of them out there to help when necessary! I regard it as just a part of the overall management of the horse, and if the feeding, ground conditions etc. are right then the feet shouldn't merit a second thought!

Annother BF owner here, but uses both EP & Farrier, as only two are EP trimmed and the rest are farrier trimmed. I would eventually like to have all EP trimmed, but can't afford it really But once I sell Bobby, thats one down, and one more for me to be able to have EP trimmed (Bobby is EP trimmed, and coming on so nicely now, he has had laminitis and had low grade foot pain)

I know more than I did when we started - but then I knew nothing! I am trying to understand what is going on because then I think I shall be more aware of what to be on the lookout for if things aren't right but I don't think I shall ever be a fountain of knowledge - but then I don't know a lot about teeth either. At some point we can let the professionals know more than we do - can't we?

I'd quite like to read up on it a bit , but don't really know where to start. I've read Paddock Paradise which is really interesting - any other suggestions?
Up to now I've just listened to my trimmer and asked any questions I can think of

Both mine are farrier trimmed and sound (well, Dylan's not had his first trim with my farrier yet but he has rock hard feet). I did buy Pete Ramey's book a while back, read it through, looked at photos online to make sure Dolly's feet weren't dire, then decided my farrier rocks so sold the book on Ebay and just phone my farrier when I have questions instead. He's great, knows his stuff, is super with the horses, punctual, and Dolly's always fabulous and rock crunching after a trim so I have no reason to doubt him
