has anyone tried Aromaheel made by equinat?
My boy has mud fever that I can't shift. He is out 24/7 in a lot of mud a lot of the time. Sudocrem seems to have stopped working, udder cream helps shift scabs but not heal the skin. Don't want to spend money needlessly so if anyone has experience of this cream I'd appreciate your advice cheers Rocky

I have heard good things about it but not used it myself.
What I have found that works well is the supplement mud guard by naf and Keratex mud guard which a waterproof talc which keeps the legs dry and also helps heal any existing sores.
I have used and recommened this combination very successfully...

not tried it but heard good reports. my mare has been mud fever free since i stopped feeding anything with alfalfa in it. this mare was very bad with it in previous years, needing the vet and antibiotics. it can take a while[ a few weeks or even months] for the liver to "cleanse" itself but then your horse should be mudfever free. its to do with photosensitivity occuring as toxins build up in the liver of some horses due to eating alfalfa, this is an allergic reaction, then mud fever happens. I know of several other people who have has similar results.

My mare had bad mud fever on one white sock two winters ago, i used sudocrem and all the food additives, nothing worked, so i tried aromaheel and saw a start tom heeling in three days! it fab stuff and means your not scrubbing or picking scabs off, it can be used on wet legs after the initial application, i cannot recommend it enough, afriends horse had it really bad in all four legs with swelling etc and had brill results! my mare has not had it since! Regarding the alfalfa my mare was being fed it that winter but not since, so there maybe a link?

Yes I have used Aromaheel and it is brilliant. I also use the ultrasalve for wounds and when the scabs have come off from the mudfever.

I've used Aromaheel on many occasions and it is very effective. That's interesting about the alfalfa. Several of ours got bad sunburn this year and that turned into something very similar to mud fever which we are still battling with. The vet thinks it is photosensitivity but doesn't know why.

I have used aromaheel on my pony before when she had mud fever and it cleared it up straight away, then if you put a bit on every morning it prevents it coming back. I wouldn't think of using anything else now. And it smells really nice!! ;D

THANK YOU ALL
going to order some now, just what i needed to hear.
Very interesting about the alfalfa. I feed alfa A oil in winter and happy hoof in summer. Maybe this has contributed to his mud fever. What would I feed instead tho as I don't want to give him hard feed, I try to keep his diet as natural as poss ?

On the very rare occasions I have had a horse with cracked heels or mudf ever ( I think it's something in the soil on certain types of land that causes it ) I have used simple Zinc and Castor Oil cream to great effect.
