Thought id see what you think
Been trying to set up a website that will help problem horses directly.
idea i have ATM is too have a number of sponsers what would pay couple of pounds each a week to cover keep of one horse.
Said crazy horse would then go to one of a network of people willing to reschool for free with the sponsers covering costs of feed etc. Horse would then be found lovely home.
Only very very basic idea there but wondered what ppl thought before I develpoed further

Sounds like a nice idea but tbh can't see it being that popular? Maybe as a once off etc. but who will reschool it? Would need quite a few sponsors.

Yes that would be the problem Even to get the cost down to £5 week per person you would need 10 sponsers for £50 which would just cover livery, feed, shoeing. Never mind back, dentist etc etc

Sounds a good idea, but in reality not sure if it would work. Perhaps if you had a list of people looking or a horse, then when one was found that would be suitable after reschooling they could pay for feed etc?

Aaaahh, xxx you underestimate the generosity of the lovely DG people! I bet there are quite a few folks on here who would take on a problem horse for reschooling, for the love of helping a troubled horsie.

possibley melly, maybe another idea would be someone who would love to keep there nutter but cant afford reschooling would just pay for the livery side if someone reschooled free

Hum, well I can't help, haven't got the time or the money for another horse! If I did have more time, I would take another in for reschooling (if anyone trusted me to reschool, lol!) if others were paying for it though. But I can see you running into problems, as remedial cases often require more in the way of back checks, teeth checks, etc, maybe the odd vet visit and so on. And who will pay for the tack?
Nice idea in theory! I wonder if there would be some way to make it work though......
*Wanders off contemplating...*

yeah alot to think about jenny, just coming out with ideas off top of head ATM. If could find enough sponsers..maybe if people were willing to donate weekly(id start at 5 week)the money donated when there is no horse will build up hopefully so there is alway some in reserve to cover back vet etc etc. though saddle wise maybe could look into a couple of treeless that would suit lots of different types

also if some was in reverse would mean that a very difficult horse could go to say grants for work before going on to foster home for more work before rehoming

Hi Mags, think it is a brilliant idea in theory, whether or not you could make it work would be another story. Me thinks you would have to do loadsa market research and be very sure of the outcome or you could be losing money. Good luck.

would it be easier to set up a charity for horses with behavioural problems? if it was possible to do so, then you could have organised events, plus any sale prices of horses who have been reschooled, donations, a sponsorship scheme, run demos - maybe sponsored by big companies so they could be free, you could allow IH studnets to work with some of the horses a sprojects and do your mucking out for a nominal tuition fee to help cover the costs! etc. I just dont think sponsors would be getting anything out of it really to make it attractive. Sadly mags, you lovely generous understanding and willingness to help problem horses is not shared by 99% of the horsey world! I think its a lovely idea, but I dont think I can think of one person who would donate money weekly to get someone elses horse reschooled for free, unless it was some sort of registerred charity maybe.
I allow myself 2 horses per year that I will take in and train for free- any more and Ill go bankrupt myself!! But then again I cover the feed and livery etc too.

Your Probabley right Rosie, i sort of hoped as people are very quick to say how they would like to rescue so and so pony, people might be interested in something organised to help doing that.Instead of us all just talking about it.
Re the charity that would be way too much of a big thing.
