My OH would like to be a "lady of leisure" so that she could spend more time with our horses. To be honest I would prefer it as it would make life at somewhat less hectic - I just need one more promotion / pay rise at work and we could afford it - so maybe in the next 2-3 yrs we can do it. She loves bringing on youngsters, teaching them basic maners and groundwork and she is good at it. She once went to our local EC on a Tuesday morning with a friend of ours, who introduced her to the rest of the assembled Senior BSJA crowd as "This is Kim - she works" !!

I would love to be a Lady of Leisure unfortunately I can't ever see it.
I am the main breadwinner, OH earns at least half of what I do, so I'm on the hamster wheel of work for life I'm afraid.
Short of winning the lottery or finding that elusive job with good money, flexi-time and local, then I'm stuffed really.
I would not get bored by not having a job. I'd just spend time with my neds and doing stuff around the house. It would not drive me bonkers if I didn't have to work any more.

LOL Jennyb, I got a row from one of the partners for his failure to sign a letter and cheque I had got ready! And the usual thing of taking too long to do work when someone else has just passed it over to you the previous day. My view of things is not possibly helped by the fact that my friend in a rival firm developed ME and was signed off sick for months then had to go part-time, due to the stress of the job. Never the type I would have thought and not sure I believe in ME, anyway she was diagnosed with it. Needless to say life was made pretty unpleasant for her part-time and she felt she had no option but to resign. She has now married wealthy man and retrained as massage therapist but basically is lady of leisure! And she was a real high achieving go-getter at uni too!
LOL Andy too, there are loads of people who do not have a traditional 9 to 5 jobs but I thought there might be more of them on here. Not sure why I should feel guilty about admitting that hubby and I have got a bit of money behind us and tiny mortgages. I LIKED being a lady of leisure (stupid term), I kept really busy! Maybe I could even meet my farrier, been using him for nearly a year and have never actually met him! (and I am on DIY- my husband has to bring the horses in for him as his infinately better paid job is much more flexible).

yeah op, dont waste your qualifications, but use them better to your advantage andy- heheh I do know what you mean, I took my girl out for a day clinic down at my local rc, and someone came up to me and said, "hi you never been to any of these before have you" and my friend just replied "she works" and they all looked at me in wonder some of them have lovely lifestyles, competing and travelling a lot and having the time to really invest in their riding and horses, but most of them are married to wealthy men and their husbands are paying for everything and I just couldn't do that. However if I could start working more from home or less hours at some point I would love having more time to compete and train...

sa- I dont know why you feel ashamed of having money, it is a great feeling and makes life very comfy, but money is not the sole reason why I love my job, I like the achieving feeling as well...

I haven't got that much money Lovelylace! But what I have got I have worked for (Not inherited or something), and coming to think of it, it has come from property and not my job! I just dont get that achieving feeling from my job but I do get it from my properties. From my job all I get is a feeling of despondency and futility, and of missing out on some good property deals. When you think of it, all most of us are doing is stressing ourselves and worrying over making money for someone else!

hmm, go into property then, I am sure your accontant skills will come in handy and you can then do something you love, earn more money, get more job satisfaction...but as you getting more and more into it I doubt that you'd be a "lady of leisure" hehehe, but you might just have more flexible hours, more time for what you love and be happier....

I lost my job after a takeover earlier this year - the whole management team were chucked out on our ears and replaced with their own team - previous owners were horrified but nothing they could do.
So I have been enjoying life as a galloping housewife since March. Go down the yard every morning get back home sometime after lunch or late afternoon depending on what we have done with the neddies. Just enough time to maybe flick a duster around, occasional bit of weeding or a supermarket trip and make myself fragrant for when my husband gets in from work
He has commented that I smell sweeter these days - soap rather than " eau du equine " and also what do you do with yourelf all day?
I don't know how I had time to work a 50 hour week, spend time with my horses every day and do all the other things I did when I was working. It is very easy to fill up your days - I have to schedule everything into my diary !
I have decided to go self employed and I am getting my own equine venture ready for launch in October so have been really enjoying my time as a galloping housewife even though it isn't going to last much longer.

Hi Gwenoakes, seems we might be the golden oldies LOL. I'm 59 in a few weeks, do my o/h office work (we work from home). No pensions so we will be working until we take up residence in a cardboard box. I gave up other work about 6 years ago, mainly due to the menopause!! I don't know how I had time for it!! Horses, dogs, gardening, friends, work, etc. We don't have any money and things get fraught but live aint bad!!
