We used to keep dogs years ago, and have wanted another one for ages, but have now decided to bite the bullet and get one ;D So the search is on. We're looking in and around the Bristol area for a dog (boy or girl, any colour and almost any breed). We don't want a [glow=red,2,300]big[/glow] dog as our house isn't huge and cat-friendly would be great as Salem is the boss of the house! The dog would go running with brother in the mornings, my mum in the evenings, and adventuring on the weekends. Visits to the stables would happen as well! We have plenty of time and love for the right dog. My mum adores Cairns and Maltese terriers but any good tempered doggy considered! If you know of anything, or have a dog that needs rehoming, please let me know!

If the dogs is going to be going running, firstly bear in mind that dogs shouldnt do this until they are around 18 months old. Also, i would stay clear of any breeds with a tendancy towards hip dysplacia and similar problems.
I have a springer and she is brilliant, but border terriers are a small breed i would seriously recommend!

Go to www.dogpages.org.uk. There is a section of the forum where you can post if you are looking for a dog. I did this a month ago and was inundated with offers of dogs looking for a new home. Some of their stories will make you cry. There a literally hundreds of dogs about to be pts because the rescue centres don't have room for them. I now have a lovely new dog, thanks to dogpages and Enfield Rescue Centre and she is a dream. A better dog I couldn't have hoped for. Her behaviour and temperament are outstanding. She was removed from a family with 9 children who just couldn't look after her properly. Have a look at the section offering dogs too, but DO post your own thread as I had so many people from different rescue centres contact me that I literally had over 20 dogs to choose from. Give it a go. www.dogpages.org.uk

Hi Chloe There are loads of rescue round the Bristol area, there is one literally minutes from me called Hollyhedge Sanctuary, they have a list of dogs looking for homes at: www.hollyhedge.org.uk/Also if you are feeling brave enough go and visit the Bristol Dogs home (just round the corner from Temple Meads station) or the Bath Cats and Dogs home, they also have a list of dogs looking for homes at: www.bathcatsanddogshome.org.uk/, have a look at Milo the Jack Russell or Erin the rough coated collie who is excellent with cats, or Dodger the Rotti x Corgi(!) who is Corgi sized.

I have a rescue dog from Last Chance in Kent (and I live in scotland!) He had issues and it was hard work for the first six months, but now, a year and four months later, he is adorable. Good luck with your search, and if you do get a rescue dog, try to give him/her total commitment, until he / she settles down; it is worth it as you get back what you put in.

What a shame, my nephew had an 18 month old boxer x lab (female) that he had to rehome, fantastic temperament, fully house trained and very loving - might have been too big for you though. He had to move and could not take the dog with him. I was almost tempted but already have three!

Chloe, P L E A S E take a look at www.dogpages.com and post a thread. There are soooo many lovely dogs looking for homes. I didn't even have to travel to find mine. They brought a couple out to me who were on their way to foster homes. They said that if I didn't like either of them, they would just continue on their way. Fortunately, we fell in love with one and she stayed with us from that moment as they obviously did the home check at the same time. I had so many messages and photos from different rescue centres that I really did have the pick of just about every breed, temperament, age, etc. Hope you find one soon. x
