God bless you for taking her in, she deserves some comfort in her twilight years. I agree with EMW and trallwmfarm, lots of walks in neutral places and sending them BOTH away if they argue over you. Good luck.

Those pictures are so cute. I think the problem could be resolved by getting your OH to 'adopt' one of them. In my experience dogs always favour a particular member of the family. I gather your OH is a bit of misery guts regarding the situation but maybe if he took it upon himself to make an effort with the new dog and you carried on giving your dog attention he wouldn't get so jealous? I grew up in a family of rescued everythings, from cats and dogs to owls and peacocks. The dogs always chose one of us to be favourite! Sorry of thats no help.

We took on an older dog and love him to bits. The only thing is that he is very unhappy on his own. In order to make life better for him we bought a little companion for him (from this dg!). Dog No 1 was very jealous and aggressive towards the pup and I thought I had made the biggest mistake ever. But over time they have become great friends and are constantly playing together and they share a bed. Toys can cause rivalry and I usually supervise play with toys and then put them away. Same with chewy treats. Hope doggies are settling down - both look lovely btw.

We went through this recently when we rescued dog no. 2. The walks are the best thing, neutral territory and all that. I did take dog no.1 out on his own a few times too though. Things definately will settle down though, good you for taking the wee soul on!

How's it going? Do you have the OH trained yet? It's usually the OH that helps create problems out of problems, bless their hearts. Our dog always gives up his toys when my neph-dog comes round and steals them, but he looks at me so appealingly "help mum, he's got it again" but very very rarely takes it back - unless he can grab it when neph-dog isn't looking! ;D
