A young girl at our yard had a bad accident on Wednesday when her horse spooked and fell over on her. She has broken her femur and had to have an operation to pin it. She developed breathing difficulties and is now in intensive care. I am devastated as she is the nicest girl you could wish to have on your yard, caring and friendly.

I broke my femur (neck of femur, which is your hip) nearly 6 weeks ago after falling from my horse, and needed two pins and a plate. I'm walking with no pain no but with crutches (and they will go in 3 weeks time) so I can tell you her leg will be fine. Bad news about her breathing difficulties though, and my very best goes to her for that and hope she recovers quickly from that - any idea what it was that caused it?

Lots of healing thoughts for Charlotte! Hope all will be well soon, how is her horse? I remember when my daughter had a similar accident and her horse fell on her he was really upset until she could get to him and reassure him. Luckily for us she was fine and only had grazes and bruises. Good luck to you too Matt, glad to hear you are healing well.

Thank you all, we have just come back from visiting her in the high dependancy unit. She is still on oxygen, morphine and about 3 other drips but seems quite alert and cheerful. She is really sad that she won't be able to ride for quite a while and she is 17 on Monday and has just got her provisional licence, so won't be able to start her driving lessons either! Thank goodness she remembered to go back for her mobile or goodness knows how long she may have been laid in the side of the lane. I will pass on all your good wishes, thanks again.

Jane
I am so sorry to hear about Charlotte. She is such a lovely person and good rider who looks after her much loved horse so carefully. Some days we forget how lucky we truly are until we read such sad news about someone who really deserves the best life can offer!
Fingers crossed there will be no further complications and she makes a recovery soon. Keep us posted - one way or another

My sister broke her femour at Charlotte's age. She was in hospital for a long time (12 weeks) but this was many MANY (!) moons ago and she is absolutley fine now - driving riding etc etc...the worst bit was teh boredom in teh hopstial - perhaps you can rpint this thread out for her and we can try to amuse her with nonsense stories? Or quizzes? Or silly sayings? Just an idea. This is what we did when my sister was in hopsital - although it was donkey's years before the internet!!

So pleased to hear that Charlotte is recovering, even though she has a way to go yet. Lots of positive thoughts coming her way.

Echo what everyone else has said really. I wish Charlotte a speedy recovery and hope she isn't in hospital too long. What a shame this had to happen to such a nice person too - seems unfair, especially when she'll be spending her birthday in hospital. Happy17th Charlotte. Jennie

Sorry - just got the giggles - amongst the ads for birthday cards at the bottom of the forum, was also one for . . . . . CRUTCHES!

Oh, how lovely you all are, I will print this later today when we go to see her. We are at pony club today so hopefully will get all her friends there to sign a card for her too.
