I'm naturally brunette, and have tried most shades of black/brown/red, but have never tried blonde. I'd like to, just out of curiousity, but I think it would scare me, and probably be too radical a change, especially as I have olive skin!

blonde hair on olive skin is v unusual Varkie. A bit radical, still it could work if you have good features.

Well, I've been everything. Purple was definately the best from a style point of view, I had a period as a brunette after caught sight of myself in the mirror in a pub one night and didn't actually recognise myself, so I thought I'd better settle down a bit but it didn't last very long. Being blonde was very entertaining--I found that stupid blokes call you 'love' a lot and really do seem to assume you're even stupider than they are (and you attract absolutely the worst sort too, who if they see past your hair only look at your chest). Sorry folks, but that really was my experience of blondeness! (It's worth trying for a laugh, actually). So now I've gone back to being red, which is definately best--people treat you cautiously, made chestnut mare syndrome and all that. As for blokes . . . well, I don't suppose I ever went out with anyone with a strong colour preference as such since I tended to change colour every few weeks anyway. At any rate, I've always suspected that this preferring blondes thing has very old roots, if you'll pardon the pun. Saxon women were documented as having a great fondness for Danish settlers, who of course were notoriously blonde, but also spent lots of time washing and combing their hair! Of course, many of the (probably more fanciable) Saxons were equally blonde and obsessed by combs (200 were found in the village at West Stowe). However while I was at ARC in York (during a red haired phase) I was solemnly told that the only reason the ever-popular Danish Vikings were blonde was because they rinsed their hair in urine to kill lice! So their naturally red hair was of course bleached to blonde.....YUK. But I suppose from a Saxon point of view it was better than fancying the (brunette) Welsh, who were called wealas--slaves! So if you think about it historically, being any colour at all is pretty unappealing from a hygiene and class point of view.....

ohh dear, badger streaks, how sweet.... I prefer my men dark, but I think it is usually better to stay close to your natural colour hair as it looks a bit artificial otherwise.... I agree that blonde hair is harder to get the shine on, still though I think success with the opposite sex have more to do with attitude and confidence rather than hair colour

Badger streak just sounds more credible than " executive highlights" ! Just means that the old phrase "tempus fugit" still holds true!

Well Finn, needless to say I wouldn't hang about long around a bird who rinsed her hair in wee...

..and don't dis badgers. A badger never gives up, always fights dirty and is most dangerous when you think it's dead. Last year I read a badger went "bad", attacked a guy, injuring his arm and had to be put down by police marksman (they didn't say if it was wearing a hoodie at the time)

Finn- even though the danes might have bleached their hair through use of urine I think that blondness in the scandinavian breeds comes from not having to develop a darker skin tone as we dont get the sun so much... I agree with some of the comments that you get from men though being blonde, hilarious, Varkie, try to just do some honey coloured high lights, to get a bit of lightness around your face but not too much for it to clash with your olive skin, lucky you, wish I had that too otherwise it can look a bit drastic I think

do men really stare at breasts more if you are blonde? Or is it the type of man who prefers blondes, stares at breasts?

Or perhaps if they're shallow enough to pick their women by hair colour, they're also the type who stare at women's breasts?

By george we're onto something. (ahem) Gentlemen prefer blondes, therefore, gentlemen stare at breasts, therefore, gentlemen are shallow??
