Does anyone use St John's Wort and tell me if it is worth trying?

Do you mean for yourself or your horse?

For myself, why can you give it to your horse as well?

You might, but worts are generally bad news for horses ;D
I sometimes use it as a bit of a pick me up in the middle of the winter if I'm feeling a bit drained (SAD type thing) and it definitely seems to help. I may be imagining it but I do find that if I keep taking it for any length of time I start to get pressure type headaches. It does work though.

The reason I ask, is that if you're on any form of contraception, be very, very careful.
I have the Implanon implant and I cannot take St John's Wort because it will negate the effects of the implant. The pill I was on previously (Microgynon 30) also advised against taking it.
(Also didn't know it was bad for horses - sorry! Just didn't want to go blathering on about contraception if it was for the neds!)

I'm pretty sure it is poisonous to horses, certainly in plant form. Homeopathy etc might be a different matter of course.

Thanks for the advise. Will have a chat to my doctor when I next visit.
