Phew - marathon reading session to catch up on everyone's news. I've had a busy weekend, so not had time to post properly. T and I spent all day on Saturday at an auction, and got the big old oak picture frame and oak bookshelves we went for, and a couple of bits of china besides (and two MORE elderly mincers, for just £1 the pair - couldn't resist. I am starting a Mincer Stud now, as one of the ones I got on Saturday is palomino - a proper chunky chappie too!!!) Yes I know - men in white coats and all that . . .
Happy birthday Rosemary. I hope you enjoy your day, though I think you said you had to work? That's a pain.
I'm glad that Mace has settled down to driving nicely again. I'm sure the initial wobbly bits were just because he'd not done anything for a while.
I'm glad that your wedding outfit is turning out so well, especially as you much-modified the pattern too. That last clothing I sewed was a pair of maternity nighties when I was pregnant with T . . .
Lynn G - giving his dad's golf balls away indeed! I fear young Alfie will indeed be dipping deep into his piggy bank this morning . . .
My son has had a friend staying overnight. You've heard of growing lads and all that - D has quite a frugal appetite, but Joe could eat a scabby horse between two matresses! I made double the spuds and veg with the roast last night, and there wasn't much left over. He will happily sit down and eat half a packet of cereal with milk for breakfast too. Definitely cheaper to keep a week than a fortnight.
One of T's friends used to stay occasionally, and would open the food cupboard door or the fridge door and just LOOK. Her parents were the strict sort and once, when she had the temerity to ask for £1 to buy lunch with when she was doing work experience, her mother snapped "Money doesn't grow on trees you know." I was out with them once and we had to get some groceries, and I bought both girls a chocolate bar each - E couldn't believe that T asked for a choccy bar - AND GOT ONE. . . She has now left school, left home and gone to live with her boyfriend - can you blame her?
You must be pleased now your bedroom is all new and sorted. I bet your OH was delighted that he was spared the task on top of work.
You must despair of the havoc wreaked by OH's other two sons whilst they were there - broken beds and the broken golf club. How sad that they think it is fun to ruin other people's belongings like that.
Napster - sorry to hear about your migraine. A friend at Uni used to be sick with hers. I had read somewhere that taking a Magnesium supplement helped some people and she tried it and it helped her, so I don't know if it's something you've ever tried? Hope you manage to solve the birthday present problem - would he enjoy a painting or print do you think?
Esme - glad you enjoyed your holiday. Tintagel is a lovely spot isn't it? We camped there a few years back on our way back from staying with relatives in Looe, and my legs still have the memory of that LONG climb up the steps to the castle!
So you were "Shy" - now you've spilled the beans!
I know what you mean about the cyclist coming silently up behind the horses and terrifying your friend's mare. I had just the same experience with Fahly recently - we nearly went into orbit, and the stupid man told me I should have been more alert! Sure, you can see my horse is fitted with rear view mirrors . . .
Ann NF - I did the same as you yesterday with a posting to W.W. and I gave up then, as I had to go and do other things. It was when it told me that the name Aberlemno belonged to someone else that I twigged. I'd pressed the stay logged in forever button and foolishly thought it WOULD last forever.
What a lovely idea to sponsor the boys for the DG appeal. I'm up for that certainly. They are making good progress. Hope it doesn't get too hot this week or they will be brown as kippers and wilting . . .
Will be back later to post some more, but have to go and turn Fahly-fat-leg out now, and sort out mum and the dogs too. He's completely sound, but his leg is still puffy, poor chap.

This is a recent pic of Armbro..giving me a baleful look because once again he is in the shed! For his own good but try telling him that! After I took this he was given a nice new clean bed with lots of straw..did he appreciate it? Well I'll leave you to answer that yourelves as we all no how unappreciative thes horses can be!! To help with the answer I shall tell you..he nipped my bum as I was putting down the straw!! LynnG x

Morning all!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSEMARY HANNAH
Sorry, can’t do the fancy colours and stuff!
My gosh, we’re up to four pages and over 400 readings! Maybe we should rename our threads “Big Brother”?
Jennie – glad you had a nice ride on Friday – even with the tractors and JCBs! It makes me nervous just thinking about taking Kira out on the roads. She sees all sorts around the yard, especially when the YO was building the school, but it’s different when you’re out on the road and have nowhere to go! At the moment we’re just plonking around the bridleways looking at all the HEBs and HEFs (Horse Eating Flowers)!! Hope Fahly’s leg is no the mend now.
Lynn – I’m so glad that Armbro is doing so well. Does the vet think he will make a full recovery? Oooh another wedding in the offing – brilliant!!
The tale of Alfie giving the OH’s golf balls away made me laugh – I hope he didn’t get into too much trouble!
EMW – Aw, now Lexxy’s gone off to her new home – you’ve got room for some more!
Jude – Spiders, we get lots of them on the boat! They’re handy because they catch all the little flies that come off the water. We don’t get house spiders either – they’re huge, fat multi-coloured garden spiders! I feel really mean attacking their beautiful webs with the duster, and usually leave it until they start dangling from the ceiling!! You can’t beat a dewy morning with all the webs hanging from the ropes covered in little jewels.
Oh no, what a shame about the bee eaters. Reminds me of the episode of “To the Manor Born” when Audrey decides to raise bees and a bee eater shows up … Sorry, I’ve got all of it on DVD!!
Laura – ouch! Hope you finger is feeling better today!
Hellooo Esme! So glad you had a lovely holiday. I always find Cornwall so magical.
Rosemary Hannah – so glad that Mace is doing so well! Maybe he won’t be an expensive field ornament after all! Do you think you’ll still sell him? Or are you tempted to keep him now??
Napster – sorry to hear about your migraine – do you get them a lot? I’ve had three my whole life, and they’re absolutely horrible.
Agree that cyclists can be a pain. My connie mare I had when I lived in London was TOTALLY bombproof in traffic, but even she didn’t like bicycles – it’s the sudden appearance of them that drove her nuts. There was this one guy who did it regularly – we happened to hack out at the time he’d go for his ride, and he’d whizz past with absolutely no consideration. Moon would do no more than sidestep, but you could see she was unhappy. So one day she’d got totally fed up with him, so she cow kicked out at him, not near enough to catch him, but it scared him to death and he fell off in the hedge. He proceeded to give me a mouthful (with Moon standing there looking all innocent) and I explained very calmly that horses were startled by bikes, and if he simply called out to let us know he was there, we’d be prepared. So after that, whenever he came across a horse, he’d call out first. I think sometimes people don’t think that horses have feelings and instincts too.
Ann NF – I don’t know how you manage to post here and on WW. I can only JUST about keep up with this one!!
Well, we had a good weekend. I won my event with the model boats (see – I do enjoy it sometimes!), the OH came second (which he wasn’t happy about) my oldest came third, and the youngest came fourth! We’re all in different classes but it was a successful day all round!
Had my second dress fitting on Saturday, and sorted out the flowers. It’s two weeks on Friday – can’t wait!!
Our friends’ son is still in hospital. He has been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He’s got a large tumour around his heart, one under each armpit, and smaller ones throughout his body. Sounds horrendous, but because he’s so young (19) he has an 80% chance of a full recovery. He has a cold at the moment, so they’ll wait for that to go, and he should start chemo on Thursday. Once they know how he reacts to that, he should be able to come home. Any prayers or Reiki or whatever that can go his way, would be great.
I don’t mind the new layout too much, except it’s not so easy to sneaky-read at work!
Hope I haven’t missed anyone!
Jenna xx

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSEMARY HANNAH!!!! (Hope it wasnt yesterday as it is confusing now no dates come up)
Goodness, even with 1 day off now this is getting extremely difficult to catch up with everyone. Apparently the little icon by Scary Day with the red bit means we are a 'red hot topic' - lol (I expect you all knew that except me!)
GATCOMBE REPORT
Well, no exciting drive there like Badminton, just a nice leisurely one as it was Sunday and quiet. We did our short cuts and missed what little show traffic there was - it never seems that bad for Gatcombe. Lovely day and have topped up my holiday tan - lol!
For those who havent been there it really is a lovely setting. The house is one that isnt too massive and you could imagine yourself living in it - lottery permitting - and it has a lovely view down over the parkland into the valley. I always used to gaze down from the road when I rode my pony round there as a kid, thinking how lovely to live there (before Prinny Anne moved in)
Tradestands first, they are ok but not a patch on Badminton or Blenheim. NO WINE AT ALL so very upset as you can imagine, a free samplle of elderflower cordial just wasnt the same - lol! The ones that were there were nice but didnt really get anything much. Did get free Eventing and Horse mags, and H&H for £1, and a Goody Bag + mag from Horse & Rider. No free horse food samples so the boys were gutted! One thing I did get was some new pillows from 'Snuggledown of Norway' - apparently they are normally 4 times the price (and we needed new ones anyway). Bought 2 anti-allergy conventionally shaped ones and 2 that are a bit like lozenges so are fat all the way to the edge. We usually have 2 pillows but the lad said we would only need one of those, and very good for back and neck ache as you can snuggle them up to your neck and they really support you. We thought we would try a couple, and the kids could have them if we didn't like them - lol! Well, I wouldnt have believed it but I have just had the best nights sleep for years!!!! Definitely will buy more when I see this company again - apparently they sell in John Lewis for mega-bucks, so I will have to wait for another show - she said they have only just started doing shows though.
The Cross Country course is set zig-zagging itself along the edge of the escarpement into Avening valley, so there are flat bits, very steep bits, and generally undulating bits. It is brilliant for spectators as you can park yourself and see 7 or 8 fences without moving. Being a one day event rather than 3 the horses come thick and fast, so you are just seeing one disappear when another comes at the top bit. We watched the intermediate class at the first half of the course. We parked ourselves on a wall and they came along a flat bit behind us (4 fences) down a steep step fence, then round a corner below us over a very tricky 3 narrow corners fence, then along the valley bottom over another 2 and away. The corners fence caused quite a few problems and there were several falls there. I must say, I do like Mark Phillips courses, they are always fair but testing. There was a 15 min gap before the Championship class, which had all the top riders giving their European hopes a run. We walked to the park bowl area and settled on the bank there. We had a panormaic view of the fences from here, including the water. The water was a good one - fence in then they had to jump a 'pimple' fence in the water, which was very tricky, and entertaining for the spectators! Unusually, they have dressage and show jumping first, then they run the x-country in reverse order, so it gets more exciting towards the end. Leslie Law & the 2 greys went well, but both looked tired as they passed us going on to the last 3 fences, this course and the terrain really takes it out of them. He was 4th & 7th (I think) Pippa Funnel & Prinmores Pride were leading, but withdrew before getting to the park bowl. It sounded as if she was having steering problems. Mary King went really well on 'Call again Cavalier' , so different to her usual big strapping horses, but they appear to have clicked. He looked fab, and he was one of the few who didnt look tired at the end, they were 3rd. Andrew Hoy was 2nd - we thought he had won it as he went like a train, and William f-p's Moon Man was dodgy about getting the time (which was v.tight) Anyway, he rode Moon Man to perfection - I am always awe struck at how he jumps out of a stride with no noticeable adjustment. He flowed passed us and we all held our breath for the water (which was causing problems for some) but he jumped it to perfection so everyone clapped like mad and cheered. If I remember rightly he was spot-on the time and there were only quarter points in it, so he deservedly won.
Drove out fairly quickly and cut off down one of our short-cuts so got out of the slow moving show traffic virtually straight away. We stopped on the common for an ice-cream. Waves of nostalgia for me, as I used to ride my pony up there for an ice-cream. There is an ice-cream factory on the common and local people flock to it as you can sit on the grass and gaze over the beautiful cotswold scenery down into the Stroud valley and over to the next hill, play ball, fly kites etc. Strangely though, it isnt advertised anywhere and there are no signs to show visitors it is even there. The factory has been going for years, mostly runs vans which are parked on the commons anyway - but they have always had a little kiosk on the premises too. Probably today the planners would not allow it because of poor access etc., but it has been there as long as I can remember so historically can stay presumably.
We called at my friends in Stroud on the way home. She and her OH were coming with us, but she is a nurse and had been on call earlier so couldnt. We stayed for a chat, and a coffee - which turned into a bottle of wine (at last - lol!) except for OH who was driving (shame) What a lovely day! Looking forward to Blenheim and the European Championships next month now. That is a terrible place to get in and out of, so already steeling ourselves for the queues now! What a shame I didnt know the boys were cycling near here as I could've cheered them on. Monmouth is only 6 or 7 miles. Ref the Bee Eaters - the RSPB has put an article about them on their website.
After all that I dont think I am up to doing personals just now, so Hi to everyone and have a nice day.

I know you have a fondness for the Admirable Rosemary,so it comes with special birthday wishes to you.I hope you have a pleasant peaceful day. Lynn,so good to hear you smile again. It was indeed a wonderful spot for a long lie! Glad you had a nice holiday Esme.An area I havn't visited for many a year.I rather fancied there was more to Tintagel each time I went.I imagine that it has windows, doors and possible furniture by now! I did enjoy my visit to Cadbury Castle though. Did you take a look at that? I am very briefly on here this morning.I find the new format exasperates me and I am not getting the hang of the thing as well as I might!

Phew, it's hard work on this one isn't it? My page doesn't quite fit so it's scrolling left and right! Loved the butterfly tl!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSEMARY HANNAH!!!!!! Hope you have a lovely one.
Lynn your Armbro looks so like Dunston, a beautiful dappled bay and the expression is like a mirror! Glad he's doing well, it's scary how close he came isn't it? How old is he?
Jenna, can't do Reiki but will think lots of healing thoughts and send much love to your friend and his family, really hope he is well into the 80% and makes a good recovery. Glad you enjoyed the boats and I'm getting excited for you with the wedding, you will post some pics won't you?
tl - Tintagel is lovely, didn't get round the castle this time though as we had the dog with us and don't think he could do the climb - bless him he has arthritis in one hip, one shoulder and spondylosis in his neck, but does reallly well on Cortaflex, occasional Metacam and just resting and not over doing it mainly. Also other places weren't visitable as they don't allow dogs, I just list them as places to look at the books about them and plan dog sitters.
Jude - brilliant report on Gatcombe, thank you I felt I was almost there! Glad you got a glass (or two) of wine in the end!
Ooh, OH has just suggested a pub lunch today once he's finished the lawn! Any requests for drinkies boys and girls?

Ooh, Esme - make mine mine a Bicardi and coke please - with lots of ice.
I'll be thinking of you - sitting in a pub garden somewhere, if you think of me, stuck in a stuffy office looking out of the window at the sunshine!
Yes, you'll get lots of photos - in fact, you'll get so many, you'll be sick of 'em!!

Hi everyone! Glad we have made the journey and got here okay, though I prefer the old DG as I am an old fogey who resents change one of our collie pups born last week has been a poorly little boy, his mum chewed his cord into his tum and would not leave it alone so I am hand rearing him (sleep? What is sleep?? Lol) But he is recovering and I am hopeful he will be okay; was a really nasty shock to find his tum all chewed though My sis regained a little of my respect today.... she rode her horse on a five and a half mile hack and survived! ;D At long last she is making an effort with him. me and OH had a lovely ride yesterday, and today we long reined our wee Noddy the shetland.... he was superb! ;D Hope everyone is well and happy, Im off to feed the orphan. xx

OK guys HELP!!! I'm trying to read and then reply to everybody's messages but seem to be spending all my time scrolling around all the different messages and sending myself dizzy!! Is there an easy way to do this without printing them all out? (Sorry to be so thick but as an excuse, my migraine is still all present and correct - groan!)
