I have just read our local parish magazine and in it is the following quote:- 'HORSE RIDERS The Parish council has received some complaints about fouling of the roadways. Please do all you can to minimise this.' My initial reaction was disbelief and then I began to wonder what measures they could suggest we take in order that our mounts cease this unruly behaviour.....nappies perhaps! If they gave us enough bridleways to ride on then this would never be an issue. I suspect it is some townies who have come to the village ;D expecting to breathe fresh country air into their pre-polluted lungs (or windbags in this case). I bet it won't be too long before we are being fined for horse's doing their business on the roads and thus expected to carry a very large pooper scooper on our backs! I have emailed a letter to the clerk of the Parish council stating my thoughts on this as I was rather gobsmacked to say the least. I asked if they meant pavements as that is the only really credible explanation that I can think of for their making such a request.

my mum remembers when she was a child people would rush out and pick up the poop and put in on their gardens,,how times have changed, I would much rather drive through or step in horse poo than dogs or cats poo

Tammy
A while ago, I can remember seeing a letter in our local rag from someone complaining about the sound of horses shoes on the road in the mornings. Some people eh ?

It's about like those people who move to the country and then complain that the local cockerels make too much noise. I assume we ARE talking about the country here?

Hee hee Jill, sounds like our thankfully ex next door neighbours. They lived in London, and had a second home in our village (which has 17 properties in it). Imagine my surprise one day when she started moaning about squirrels, how loud the birds sing, sheep baa'ing and yes, as you say, the noise of somebody's cockerel. Oh, and her car got dirty from mud on the road from tractors. Bless...

Assuming its our local parish council Tammy I shall speaketh to Graham whatsisname (Parish Councillor) asap (he meets my dad in the pub every friday) and suggest that we horseriders would like to complain about: 1. Noisy dogs in gardens that like to jump out on us 2. Inconsiderate car drivers (he can put a notice in the parish mag about THAT please!) 3. Miserable, sour faced dog walkers with dogs who chase my horse and children 4. Various half-arsed building housing renovations all around the village that spook the horses out and have done for MONTHS 5. The state of the road to Norbury - needs the horse manure to fill up the holes. Honestly, have some people got NOTHING better to do than complain about a pile of horse poo!??!

Hi Smudge You Go Girl!! ;D See if you can get them to open some more bridleways to join up with the measly few we have. Need signs to slow traffic and alert them to horses being ridden on the roads. Need a route map and signs to direct these idiots back to their city homes! I bet it's the barn conversion brigade!

I spoke to him a while back about that patch of ground by the cricket club and the railway line - neither of which should be used by horse riders. Apparently the thought is that horse riders chrun up the ground too much. I asked him what he thought of all the dog fouling on the aforementioned railway line... not to mention all the vile little vandals who hang around the park on that patch of grass trashing the swings etc
He also agreed there are not enough bridleways and that horseriders are very hard done to in the village... that was 2 years ago - and I haven't seen any action, support or promotion of horse riders at all!

Yeah! Know where you lot are coming from! Back at my family village of Hilderstone, they built a new housing estate. Ya know, big detached houses, (with about 4 inches of space separating them from next door!) and when townies first moved in, they complained about the cow poo smell coming from the farm 700 yards up the road! They also banned one woman from putting washing on her line as her house was one of the ones near the road, and her washing would ruin the look of the estate! LOL!

I have to say I always pick up Hamish's poo round our village, but only because it is going on the tomato plants next year! No one bothers in our village thankfully, but if anyone did say anything then I would demand that farmers scrape all the mud from their tyres up and all the dog owners pick their poo up too. Actually, I think most animal owners do pick up poo here, which is good. I'm lucky then?!
PS Our parish council chairman has horses, so don;t think we'll have ti put up with snide comments like that!!

i used to always make sure i turned my geldings bum into a hedge row when he pooed so as people didn't have to tread on it, on the roads i don't bother so much.

You could always reply in the magazine... Leaving mud on roads without lawful authority or excuse is an offence under section 148 of the Highways Act 1980 and can lead to a fine... but horse poo has been classed as a natural waste product and is seen to be beneficial to the enviroment... in fact many keen gardeners would be happy to have it 'delivered' locally for use on their gardens!
