I'm beginning to think about what might be best to trade my very impractical car in for sometime in the not too distant future- wont always be living near my parents which means I wont always be able to borrow my Dads 4x4 for towing! I'm thinking about a freelander- does anyone have any experience of them, good or bad reviews most appreciated! Thanks, Tria x

Hello again - A friend of mine has a brand new one - loves it so far. No issues that I'm aware of.

Hi Lisa!
Thats good to know- I'm beginning to think it'll be the right vehicle to get, just a bit wary of taking the plunge as my little car has been really great! Will have to go and test drive a couple maybe to get a better idea.

before you get one check what it can tow, weight wise.

Oh dear, don't want to pour cold water over your plans Tria, but we have got one and most definitely would NOT recommend them. Had a problem with the engine initially (which apparently is a common fault with them) and it is useless for towing. My husband said if this is the best of British car manufacturing no wonder the Japanese cars are selling so well. We are definitely going to be changing it when we can decide what will be best for towing Bobby's trailer.

We've got one and its going to be up for sale soon as we need a box (big new horse which combined with existing chunky cob will mean the need for a lorry) Message me if your interested in a second hand one

Another jug of cold water, I'm afraid! I have several friends who have a freelander and rue the day they bought them, even though they are not used for off road or towing - poorly finished and unreliable.

My boss has one - she doesn't use it for towing as it's not that great:-( Not a cheap car to run either, but I don't suppose most 4 wheel drives are. She uses her mums Landrover Discovery for towing and loves it.
Other friends that tow a lot use a Jeep Cherokee - wonderful to tow with and comfy as well.

Yep, more cold water I'm afraid. Gutless for towing. What's your budget? Toyota Landcruiser, Mitsubishi Shogun, Grand Cherokee Jeep, Isuzu Trooper...
