About three years ago we bought a Tempur memory foam mattress. I have been having hip problems. Just spent four days away from home..........no probs walked around London for about one hour and a half. Back home and after first night in my own bed,hip pain again. After thinking about it when we go on holiday I am fine can walk with out probs I thought it was because I was not on my feet for the same amount of time. any thoughts please
Thank you in advance

I've never tried a memory foam mattress, but I did recently change my old mattress for a new pocket sprung one, and my previous creaks and aches have certainly all but disappeared. The new one is very firm and I just love it. I don't think you realise how much of an effect your mattress has on your joints until you get a new one which suits you!

used to have a memory foam one but got rid of it............... was the most uncomfortable, sweaty, hot thing I've ever tried to sleep on..........like Liz I now have a pocket sprung one which is a whole lot better for me, but a full nights sleep still evades me.......galloping insomnia ins't in it!

I have a very firm mattress but began to find it very uncomfortable when hip problems started bothering me several years ago. I could not afford a decent new mattress and so bought a memory foam topper and placed a quilted cotton protecter on top of that. So far this combination has worked quite well - still have hip problems which should be resolved soon, I hope! I cannot get a full nights sleep but I can lay down fairly comfortably!

Im having terrible lower back pain, gp thinks is sacroiliac am waiting for physio, iv knicked my sisters latex topper thing which actually seems to help a bit at night as I'm not so crippled first thing as i was on my ancient mattress but its certainly not waved a magic wand

If so, it won't help too much as a topper isn't think enough to provide support, only comfort. Ideal on top of a firm mattress like Liz above. The best memory foam mattresses have decent, pocket springs underneath as it's the springs that do the work. Sent from my GT-I9195 using proboards

The best thing I ever bought was my new (well, 12 months ago now) mattress. Don't be fooled by the word 'orthopaedic' as usually, something medium firm to firm will do the same job.
I opted to spend a bit more and go for one that was pocket sprung with the cushioning on top made from natural fibres as they breathe better (I used to get awful night sweats with memory foam) and also as I'm allergic to so many things!
It really is best to go and try them out first, even if you then buy it cheaper online as if it's not quite right, it's a very difficult mistake to live with.

We did try it out in the shop ,you really need to sleep on one for a few weeks or a few months.
