It will be a shame to see a nice and productive forum disappear. I think it will probably be the most unfortunate event in IH history as it will certainly seriously decimate the community and prevent future community members from joining, but if they can't afford to staff the running of it, it can't be helped. Moderation of forums does take time and needs to be consistent.
I don't think Facebook has taken over the role of this forum at all. It's a very different type of interaction that has it's place but I don't think has the value of a forum like this. Businesses don't always understand the value of what they have! It takes years to build up a community like this and it is the envy of many other projects, businesses and forums.
I would like to say a big thank you to all who have contributed in the past and who have given me and others helpful advice and encouragement over the years. May all your horse hours be happy hours!

I'm sure it's taken a lot of hard deliberation. Really value the IH forum and I hope whatever format things take we keep sharing the experience, information but most importantly support to fellow users.

Cant we pay a lifetime membership to the forum as the show ring forum does? £10 gives you a lifetime of readings and posting. It's such a friendly board and ive made many good friends.
Note to jaymez at least they've waited until ive sold my last one on the "promotional platform" lol

Why do the forums need to be locked and people unable to post more though? Surely we could just have more mods & hand over the majority of the responsibility? Sad

I'm not sure how the 'Ask an Expert' will work? on the courses and at the demos we are told & taught that timing is key. Timing can't be advised by email and each horse is unique, so two horses with the same or very similar symptons or behaviours would react in very different ways to the other even though the advice was the same. Some things have to be seen to understand the behaviour and know the best way to tackle the problem for that particular horse...... n'cest pas? I've been an expert on the (very, very) quiet Horse and Rider forum for a while, and can usually get people pointing in the right direction. I'm pretty good a guessing what might be at the root of a problem and can give advice (albeit with a caveat about not having seen the horse) that is more often than not helpful. Sometimes a bit of video can help, but very often I'll be able to give a fairly good guess as what's going on and how to start tackling the problem. The best course, though, is always to book an RA. D'accord? D'accord LizP, merci beaucoup

The thing is that lots of stuff we enjoy is on the General - updates on Fal jumping, breaking her collar bone etc etc. Might it be possible to have a single open thread which all sorts on it? Just 'Open' - NH, General, and whatever. Back to the much simpler board of the early days. this has happened to so many groups - too many boards and then too many places to look at and keep up with.

I think that's me out then as I don't think I can easily do direct deposit from an overseas bank account. Very sad really as I have been here a long time and was hoping for like-minded support when it comes around to backing my mare in the spring. This group has been such a help, particularly with Missy, and also Fready, recently but also with Tally's many adventures and escapades over the years.

I do think though that by losing open access to some form of general horse talk, it will be less likely to encourage new people towards ih which would be a great shame. Sent from my GT-I9195 using proboards Totally agree, a locked general would be so disappointing Please keep FAG! X

I'm sure long hard consideration has been given to this. I'm no longer on FB but the IH page looks pretty busy. I found FB great for more general discussion but didn't really come across problem solving and support much. Perhaps things have changed. Personally I like a forum format better but I'm an old f**t.

I am on FB a lot, but the FB page is a totally different animal - the very format means it is top led. It is an excellent showcase, but not a place to catch up with things and ponder things. I am not knocking anybody and I am sure a lot of thought went into it all. But wondering is things might yet be reconsidered is not at all the same as being in any way hostile or uncooperative.
