Hi, I've bought quite a few things on ebay, but never sold anything. I have a number of low value items that I no longer have a use for, and know would sell and be useful to someone else. From my own experience I've found lots of photos showing details of the items condition, and measurements very useful.
Any more tips for successful ebay selling?

Yep, good photos are always key. Measurements too.
Also be aware that in your title you have X number of characters - so use them. Also think of what words buyers might use to search for your item. Write your title, e.g. "Cob sized brown bridle" then use up the rest of your allowance with a list of keywords, for example "havana, medium size, cavesson" etc.
I generally do free postage and just make the start price at a level I'm happy with as free postage always seems to make people think they're getting a bargain.
Also, before you list it, search for completed listings for the same item to see what others have actually sold for, and if any didn't sell as that'll give you the best valuation.

I have sold a lot of bits and pieces on e-bay and find that a good description written in a friendly style really helps especially if you can add a bit of history or a good reason for selling.

Thanks guys. As I already have an ebay account do I have to do anything like register, or sign my life away, to be able to sell?

Ditto above.
Don't use reserves - just choose a starting price that you are happy to sell for. That way, if only one person is interested at that price, they can bid and buy. If you have a reserve, you need more than one bidder to get the price up for it to sell.
Bear in mind charges - paypal take their commission immediately but ebay then invoice monthly for listing fees and final value comission.

From my sister's experience don't sell to overseas buyers. Also watch out for people who want to send you a cheque for more than the amount and you send them back the excess. The pictures and description are not just there to help the buyer but to protect the seller too. Make sure that you photograph and describe every scratch or mark so they can't complain that it is not as described.

How do I not sell to someone if they 'win' the auction?
