That's me for a few weeks at least
I'm off any added sugar, trying to see if I a) lose any weight and b) feel any less tired
I probably should go off sugar altogether but I'm not sure I can keep that up so I'm just staying away from stuff that contains refined sugar. Still eating fruit and veg, cutting pasta down as much as possible and having rice instead, cutting out white bread, most packaged cereals, chocolate, sweets and cakes. Sounds sensible I suppose but I have such a sweet tooth that it is very difficult. I'm 3 days in and craving a can of coke which is crazy as I never usually drink fizzy drinks
If I do feel better after a few weeks then it might be a permanent change but I might need a few weeks to coming to terms with the thought of never eating lemon meringue pie again

I cut out most complex carbs and all refined sugar a few months ago because I was having appalling hot flushes and I figured sugar was a trigger - I was right, the flushes have gone completely. However, I'd say don't be too hard on yourself - if you say "you can never have X again" you're just going to want it more. So be realistic, if you occasionally eat a brownie, or a slice of lemon meringue pie, it's not going to kill you! I would recommend losing bread though, white, brown, whatever, it always has quite a lot of sugar and fat, and the more you eat the more you want.

What do I eat for lunch if no bread? Lol I'll have to be super organised and make something up the night before

You can of course make bread - lovely wholewheat with no added sugar at all. Oatcakes are good if you cannot bake.

Even the bread machine recipes all contain sugar!!
Thankfully my cravings have subsided quite a lot. Saturday night was unreal but I got through it lol
Next hurdle is dinner out on Friday night!!

I find it takes 3 or 4 days to stop craving sugar, and then after a week you barely think about it. I've found though that if I'm bad once then I have to start from the beginning again with 3 days cravings etc and it's just as difficult as the first time (if not even harder)
You will feel fantastic very soon :-) good luck
Ps I'm back on the sugar and feeling lethargic and rubbish! Still takes a lot of motivation to cut it out though!! It'll start from my next food shop!

Yeah that's why I worry about even eating a slice of cake or something utterly scrumptious like that - I will have to go through the cravings again and I might not always be mentally strong enough!!

I never ever used crave sugar.. The past few weeks it's OUT OF CONTROL I think I would kill for sugar if pushed.. I don't know what's going on but think I will have to go dr.. I've put on a stone in 2 months and can't stop it.. I always ate so well and healthy and now unless it's sugar my body doesn't want it.. Help!!!!!!!!! I have tried more fruit rather than biscuits etc.. A little help but not really.. I know.. Don't buy the biscuits but my body is in control and I am going to go mad! I hate it!! I think it's hormonal but don't even know why I think that!!

Yay, someone to share my pain lol
Hidden sugars - ketchup, salad cream, mayo, gravy granules, those packets of flavoured rice, flavoured water, just about every jar or pack of ready made sauce, fruit yoghurts, nearly every cereal on the shelves except for 100% porridge and shredded wheat, a lot of 'low fat' products contain sugar instead.
I went shopping yesterday and nearly everything processed I picked up had sugar in it. I know it's always advisable to eat unprocessed foods anyway but cooking from scratch is time consuming!!

Try eating full fat yogurt / cheese etc instead of sugar. I find I'm satisfied far more quickly with fat than I am with sugar. I know we've been told for years that low fat is good, but generally low fat is pumped full of sugar to make it palatable, so although it's low fat, it's still high calorie. Plain full fat yogurt often has fewer calories than the same amount of low fat, and will fill you up far more.

I went shopping yesterday and nearly everything processed I picked up had sugar in it. I know it's always advisable to eat unprocessed foods anyway but cooking from scratch is time consuming!! Hmm see I generally don't eat any of those anyway... That's what I can't understand... It's chocolate biscuits and ice cream.. The real bad stuff that I am craving... But I am replacing proper food with them or I am just eating proper food plus them.. Proper food being, rice with 4-5 veg without sauces etc, a hand ful of pasta with veg etc, sometimes with lactose free soft cheese mixed in but only a tea spoon, I do cook with real butter but reading lately that's better than veg oil etc... Veg curry with no sauce just spices, I have been eating more meat lately, not much but some and I wonder is that connected to gut issue causing need for more sugar.. Coz I stopped eating so much meat because I felt better for it.. But circumstances just happen to be putting meat in front of me more lately but it's varied and small amounts.... Oh and risotto but not more than once a week and I only make it with some butter and veg stock with veg and risotto rice.... Lunch might be a fried egg (without oil etc) sandwich on whole grain bread, or scrambled egg or to spoil myself mushrooms some way haha that's what I normally eat I don't know where this crazy craving has come from.. But I now weigh more than I have in 10 years.. Devastated haha I am lactose intolerant and I think the ice cream may be causing problems and I know it's the calcium I started out craving that for and I think the excess lactose and added ice-cream sugar has added to the problem.. But every summer I get major ice-cream craving and it doesn't upset me like other dairy products and I do take calc/mag/zinc now to.. I dunno... I will try keep busy and up my cardio to try restore metabolism but I need to find something to replace these bad snacks until I can get back on track... Nuts work but equally bad and not satisfying cravings.... Am also going to make effort to drink more water.. I have already cut sugar from coffee... I'm baffled and a little annoyed I have let it get this far.. Sugar is a drug haha a bad one!!!
