We made the decision last year to move as my OH was made partially redundant - still works two days a week and he is due to retire in 3 years (timing was pretty rubbish!). So where to go?? Both our sons live in another county so we have decided to upsticks, downsize and join them as they are now marrried to local girls and certainly not moving. We have just come back from a two day visit (we used to live in the county about 20+ years ago so sort of know the area) but totally shocked at how expensive it is now compared to where we currently are!!! I'm a bit stunned really as we won't get much for our money and will have to really downsize - I suppose I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself Children!!!

Hugs to you. My friend has upped sticks and gone back home to be closer to family after living here for years. They have moved from a huge house with land to a tiny cottage she has only recently gone so not sure how things are yet but she feels she is moving for the right reasons.

thanks troop - its just the shock of it all as we have been in this house now for 20 years. We moved a lot before then (ex military) and I took it all with very little fuss but a tad older now and more set in my ways lol

Id look about at a neighbouring county to look for better value - you don't need to be on the doorstep to be near them with all the options on travel!

Oh crikey all go here! Exchanged and got to be out in two weeks (my birthday), going to a holiday cottage rent for 4 weeks, then 2 weeks with eldest son and hopefully then New house ready. So will be living out of a suitcase for June! Chickens being fostered by eldest son, 20 years of stuff being culled whilst training New person to take on my job at work. Pony stays where she is until we all move to Hampshire on 20th June - such fun!!

Exciting news, holi, I'm very jealous. Sounds absolutely wonderful, good luck with culling accumulated junk, I hope you're better at that than I am! All the best with the moves, looking forward to pics of ponies and donkeys wandering past in July.

apparently we have commoners rights Whimper! Decided I'll have to have a holiday in the New Forest in a cottage with ponies and donkey wandering past, as that's as close as I'll get to the dream of living there, with commoners rights.
