Could not sleep back in pain among other things and guess what happens at 3.35am??? Nobody will be able to guess! .......... For awhile now scrabbling has been going on in the attic and behind the wall but this morning i thought oooo the scrabbling sounds closer .... it was closer! It was under the BED!!!!!!! I leapt up and out ran a rat a flipping rat!!! It ran for wherever it had come from (i since found out it fell from the ceiling in the airing cupboard). with me behind it growling that it was driving me mad and needed to die! Yep lack of sleep got to me. The OH still says it is a mouse it is not..... I have been having a mad cleaning session this afternoon. How to sleep tonight? How to sleep i have no idea but sadly poor little fluffy ass rat needs to go.

Oh no ... any plan of action to redirect this rat out of the house? I don't mind rats at all but its one thing when you see them at the yard or outside, must have been a shock to see one come out from underneath the bed

EEEEEK!!! Oh Troop, that's awful, my worst nightmare!
Same thing happened to me in my old cottage, which backed on to a hen farm.... a rat got in next door's loft (it was a holiday cottage, and they weren't there) and it came through to my house. I rang the council rat man and he arrived with a block of poison...... sod that, I thought, and called a friend who has JR terriers. She brought four, and we had a sporty hunt - which ended in the airing cupboard. Job done.

One morning about 3 years ago I walked out of the bedroom with my 2 year old daughter to see droppings on the landing. I got downstairs and there was a massive rat sitting behind my photo frames on the lounge windowsill. Eurgh. With a toddler in the house I am afraid that ratty had to go and fast. He ran under the computer table and stayed there. My husband was away on business. I called rentakil. They said they'd be out in a few days with some poison. I called a local man who brought with him a terrier and a gun. Ratty was dispatched with one shot. We had building work done only a few weeks after that which attempted to block up all the holes. I hope I never get another rat in the house.
(((Hugs))) it was and is my worst nightmare. I hope you're ok.

Well I think you are jolly brave Troop. I have a cupboard in my room that opens into the roof eves - opened it a few weeks ago to look for something, was digging about quite the thing when a mouse jumped out an ikea bag. I'm ashamed to say I burst into tears and screamed so loud my neighbor came round... I camped out in Rorys bedroom for 3 days until the wee fella was caught. Its the speed of them that spooks me. Would have been fine if it popped its head up or just sat there quietly but no it had to leap out on me. A rat would be my worst nightmare, hope he doesnt come back

Terrier sounds like a plan. We had mice living behind the kitchen cabinets last winter, it was awful

This may not work for Welsh rats, but Scottish tradition has it that to rid the house of wee furry inhabitants of the rodent variety you need to compose and perform a rat satire. You need an original composition (and don't share the words til afterwards) and you basically need to sing to implore the wee critters out you house (pied piper of Hamlin style). You can tell them: how hard it is for the inhabitants of your home with them living there, where it would be more comfortable (ie at the neighbours property!) and how many good things there are there. I believe that versions in Scots/English/Gaelic are all acceptable. xxx

We've had mice over the years and the cats bring dead rats into the garden :/ I do sympathise. Hope your back its better soon x Sent from my GT-I9100 using proboards
