anyone with experience? For a while now (over a year, maybe 2..) I've been having a lot of cramping in my bowels.. I have in the past suffered from IBS but it doesn't seem to be this, it's not the same pattern, and different triggers. I have been having the most awful times with it, from getting no warnings at all and need a loo there and then, or getting cramps so badly I double over, then needing a loo there and then. At first they seemed to be abdominal migraines, but over the last few months the "episodes" have been getting considerably worse. Christmas and NY was a nightmare... I had a head migraine on the Sunday before Chrsitmas, then the Monday I had an abdominal migraine... Tues I had another, not so bad on the day itself, Thursday it kicked in again, and I ended up in OOH GP for an antispasmodic inj, Fri was covered and Sat I was back at OOH GP. Since then I've been to my GP and had a few more episodes, got meds to stop them now, and had a blood test. GP has referred me to Gastro specialist but I've yet to hear from them, she's chasing them up this week. But she mentioned that it needs to be investigated - yup I gathered that, then she mentioned a camera up the ar.... well im sure you clever peeps get the picture... I have read up on it.. good ol' Bupa.... Just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience, and might want to share? Does it hurt? Can you be sedated for it?

Not had one personally but was threatened with one... Boss has had a few. Apparently sedation is routine, they want you perfectly still so as to avoid any risk of perforation! So you shouldn't know much about it. Think they give you laxatives the night before, then you might just be a bit uncomfortable afterwards but I think like with most things, the thought is worse than the event! I had a gastroscopy without sedation, it was uncomfortable and unpleasant but very quick and probably not worth sedating for. Colonoscopy is different though, you're a bit more delicate down there and need to avoid flinching, lol!

My Dad's had a couple. Uncomfortable rather than painful but be prepared for lots of farting afterwards.

Sorry to hear you're having a horrible time, hope they can find a soluton. I've never heard of a migraine any where else in the body other than in the head! Sounds nasty!

Yes, I've had one. The colonoscopy isn't at all nasty, weird but not painful or anything. The worst bit is Picolax that you have to take beforehand to clear everything out. It's evil. Only read the following if you don't mind a bit of language! www.dla-associates.co.uk/crud/Picolax.pdf

Kafee, the abdominal migraines are more common in children, and usually accompany a "silent" migraine, which is what I had the first time I had one.. unfortunetly it also came with drooping of my face, (one side only) weakness down one side and slurry speech... (I'd phoned NHS24, and the nurse had noticed this, I'd phoned because of severe stomach pain) she thought I was having a TIA (mini stroke), few hours & a brain scan later and silent migraine was diagnosed.. Now im formally diagnosed as having migraine without aura's (no warning signs)
LizP - guess I'd better take the day off before then if the laxatives are that powerful??
I love toilet humour LOL

No experience thankfully but lol at Liz's link!! Both my sisters had migraines as children, one head and the other tummy. Middle sister had head migraines which were controlled very easily by diet, she had a long list of things she couldn't eat but it worked. Eventually she added individual items to her diet which helped identify food triggers.
Julz, I am sure you have already considered it, but have you tried an elimination diet?
