Yes you need a holding number to keep pigs and sheep or cattle. If pig comes here it will be the OH project not mine. I cant feed my dinner .

Yes you need a holding number to legally keep pigs. Whilst there is no doubt that some horses seem to have a phobia about pigs I am not sure how much of it comes from the expectation of the owner - whenever we have had pigs the horses have all loved them and would chat over the fence.

urghh no two pigs twice the muddy mess. To be fair im more asking about pigs to know what to do with the little uns as the people that have them dont have a clue, they dont have holding number either. The two males have been put together and are fighting . Also seeing as the yard cant afford to care for the 30 odd horses they have they are seriously going to struggle with this extra lot to feed. P.s on another note im getting back on track currently just need my back to hold up. Thank you to everybody for your support you really ALL helped. Im very lucky i have some very good friends to rely on. Just went of track somewhat there.

House pigs are such a bad idea.... someone I know bought two, very expensive, supposed to be really small even as adults. They very quickly trashed the garden (yes, she had a holding number) and learnt how to get into the house if she left the back door open just a chink. And from the back door, to the fridge - learnt how to open that too, and how to empty it..... They got huge too, and the male got quite nasty, even though he'd been castrated. Don't know where they ended up, wouldn't have been in her freezer, quite likely in someone else's though.

Dear god why on earth would you keep a pig in the house eeek. Well speaking to a friend she says they are like dogs and you have to remember they have a pecking order. I read that you cannot legally feed them scraps anymore ? Why is that?

Pigs can be really nasty, and bites are horrific from them - don't try to separate the boys by hand what ever you do. They need splitting with electronet - or a v old fashioned thing is to throw lime at them which blinds them and settles them down to get used to each other but that only usually works on sows.
Piglets are a nightmare tbh - you can hand rear for a few days, put back in with mum when they're strong enough to suck and find she's sat on the whole lot over night. The piglets need an area they can get to that mum can't, on a proper sow set up they have basically baby gates with a heat lamp over the babies corner which has a curved railed door around it so they go in and out.

A sow can have two and a half litters per year so keep the boys away unless you want more piglets. They will eat pig creep feed right away, sow needs ad lib sow nuts now. There may be piglets crushed to death, especially bedded on straw as their legs get tangled and they cant get out the way fast enough when the sow lies down. Best with a mix of shavings and chopped straw for the first month at least. Put a big soily clump of grass in for them all to pick at and replace it when necessary. The smaller two will be on the poorest pair of teats so they wont grow as fast but with ad lib pig creep in an area where the sow cant get it all they will be fine just smaller. If some of the others do get squashed they may do better. Think of all the sausages
