Last week I had foot surgery, which all went well, but means I can't walk for at least three weeks. Over the weekend I came down with a cold, which has now turned into a chest infection and I'm feeling really rough. This always happens when I get a cold, and fortunately my GP has given me antibiotics to keep at home, because OH works away from home and at the moment I've no way of getting myself to the surgery. Normally I need steroids as well, but I don't have any so just have to hope that it clears up without. I love living in the sticks, but it does make you realise just how dependent you are on being able to drive. In the good old days GPs used to come to you! Remember that?
I know I'll feel better in about three days, but right now I'm miserable. I can't walk, I can't breath and I'm coughing so much I can't eat. Oh well, there's alway whisky!

Oh Ruth that does sound miserable. Which area are you in? Maybe some DGers can bring you grapes or something! I totally understand being reliant on driving, the horses are at home but for anything else I do really need to drive. I hope you have some good films, books and magazines.

Do you have any friends in local villages that could take you ? If not some GP do still do home visits believe it or not!
Make sure you rest, eat well and keep hydrated as otherwise you will just feel more poorly. I Hope it starts to clear soon for you x

Well that's a bugger, the whole point of putting your feet up is, not that you can recover from surgery, but so that you can enjoy some guilty pleasures you don't otherwise have time for. Your hairdresser friend who's using your car, would she be able to pick you anything up? Companymagic's right though you can always request a home visit, if you normally need steroids and the anti biotics don't start to kick in quickly call the Dr out or it'll only delay your recovery. Hope you feel better very soon.

You have my sympathy Ruth, I was knocked over by my youngsters last June, and the radiologist thought I'd fractured a bone and plastered it. A week later at the fracture clinic the doctor/consultant decided it wasn't. It was still pretty sore for several weeks though.
Then just before Christmas when my foot was finally back to normal, my daughter broke two metstarsels doing judo, and ended up in plaster. One was broken in two plaves and displaced, so they operated and put a plate in. She's in a plastic boot now and partially weight bearing. Looks like as soon as she can walk on it, they'll take the plate out and she'll be back to square one.
Her injury was described as a twist injury, usually seen in horse riders that have had their foot stuck in a stirrup. Ouch!

Call your gp and pharmacist. If the go are happy to write a prestripton over the phone (and I don't see why not with your history) then the pharmacist may well deliver. I know mine did when I had my first c section and couldn't get to him. Nice chap Hope you feel better soon Sent from my GT-I9100 using proboards

OH does home visits every day!! They do still do them, and you should be able to get help if you need drugs but are temporarily immobile. Perhaps GP could give script directly to chemist - could the friend who is borrowing your car collect drugs for you?

I was just going to say what JennyB has said, in that our docs will do a 'home visit' if needed and sounds like you'd fit into that category!
Hope you're feeling a little better today. This weather doesn't help at the moment,..we could just do with a few dry days with a little of the yellow stuff shining through to give us all a little boost!!
Take care
