Hope you feel better soon and definitely find out what conditions you need to meet in order to get a referral to the specialist.

Despite asking for the Dr,I got the practise nurse. She gave me another dose of antibiotics & agrees that I need a referral. Going back in a week.

Not all docs are bad. My fiancé is a GP and today is working on an air ambulance, also gives up his free time very regularly to be on call for the ambulance service - unpaid, I might add. Having listened to things from the other side, so to speak, a GPs job can be very frustrating at times, and often the day is made up of "frequent fliers" and the worried well. They are constantly getting slammed in the press and blamed for all that is bad within the NHS and the government would have them working 7 days a week if they could. I'll get off my soapbox now, lol, suffice to say I don't doubt that there are bad practices and bad doctors out there but it's not fair to say a blanket "they don't care" - most of them do.

I blame the receptionists.. it is them you have to get past in order to get an appointment with either the gp or nurse.

I have no issue with my GP, its the blinking receptionist at our practise that I cant stand.
However I don't think that anyone should be made to feel like they are wasting there GPs time, if they are in & out all the time worrying over nothing then surely in itself that is most likely to be anxiety, which is mental health & there GP should be putting them in touch with the right support for that.
A loccum (??) Dr at our surgery told me a few months ago I had wasted time of A&E staff for taking my 20 month old in when his temp was at 39 & he was having convulsions. He said should have given him calpol and stayed at home. A few days later his temp flared up again & I went straight back to a&e & Rory was admitted. Others might have taken what he said to heart & the consequences of that are not worth thinking about.

I had a blood test couple weeks ago but my veins are worse than useless sometimes.. It took the nurse 7 times (bit excessive I know but she wasn't for giving up!) she managed only one vial eventually, so said I was to make an appointment with a dr for the rest... that was the challenge.. I went downstairs to do this... got an appt for later that day despite my saying I couldn't do later, so phoned later to re-arrange.. (this is where the fun starts).. asked for a GP appt for blood test (explaining why it wasn't a nurse) receptionists answer was.. Her - "I'll put you in with the nurse as it's the nurse who takes it"... me - "no, the nurse couldn't get a working vein, she said to get a GP to do it" Her - "the GP's time is precious and not to be wasted" I then asked her to look up the notes... then she said I could have an appt with the locum.. I said that was dfine so long as she can find a vein.,..... she did. First time

I hate that my practice has a check in screen.. just another job for the receptionists not to do... everything being taken over by machines... isn't it machines that go wrong...lol

Our GP used to have a check-in screen, I preferred it as you didn't have to broadcast your details to all and sundry, it broke!
