Do the drains that rainwater goes down link up with sewer drains? If it would just stop raining for a while I could investigate the timing of the smell! The rainwater should go into a soakaway or grey water system, but if the foul water drains are cracked or damaged there could be cross contamination which might account for the smell. Foul water drains are separated from the house by U bends or other traps but grey water drains aren't so the smell can come back in to the house. I hope that isn't the problem, because it could get expensive

Maybe the Environmental Health office at the local council could help with suggestions, if not actually come out themselves.

With us it was the rainwater drains from the guttering that simply had got blocked with leaves and the standing/slow moving water gave a foul smell. Thankfully waste pipes not involved. Check the drains for a vent pipe - it should be at the highest point of the drain run outside the house and should terminate above eaves level. If it is blocked or below eaves then the gases from the sewer could permeate into the house. Is there a basin/shower/bath/toilet that has not been used for a while as the water in the waste trap could have evapourated or been siphoned out allowing sewer smells to come through. I think dead vermin are most likely to be the cause however due to the time of year and the fact that poison has been put down.

We have had the 'lovely' not, smell of dead mice in two of our bedrooms and it has lasted for 2 weeks, but is on the decline now, so I would plump for that tbh especially if you have put poison down as we have.
I have been opening the windows at 6a.m. and shutting at 4p.m. to help with the smell. LOL
