She hasn't posted for a while, and I knew her pony was off colour in October so I emailed to ask how she was and..........nothing. Does anyone hear from her, are they okay, or is it just lack of power after the storms?

Not this month, the last time I heard from her was late November when Bambi wasn't too well.

I think she's generally fine, she's been posting recently on the phoenix horse forum, she might have been reading on here without logging in so not seeing your PM. She's been going through the mill a bit with trying to work out what is wrong with Bambi but I think she had decided to try a Prascend trial after getting a borderline result. Anyway, if she sees this I'm sure she'll fill you in herself

Hi everyone I'm still here . Thanks for asking about me Jill, and I've replied to your e-mail today - I've just been a bit bogged down with trying to get to the bottom of what's wrong with Bambi, and also in the process I may have almost accidentally stumbled on the underlying pain issue with Lucas that I've been searching for over more than four years. It's a different issue from Bambi but I think Coco has some of both!!!! so my mind has been reeling as I've been trying to put everything together and make some decisions how to proceed with all three of them without bankrupting myself or getting lost down more blind alleys (I could draw a map of the Blind Alley Maze!). I had a long and detailed thread over on the Phoenix forum before Christmas and a lot of PMs too about Lucas, and it was all I could do to keep up with that and take advantage of the very kind and thoughtful help I was being offered from a couple of very experienced people (one of whom also posts on here ). I'll keep you all posted when I know more. Believe me, if it turns out I can fix Lucas I will be shouting from the rooftops! Bambi is going to be OK I hope, she is much brighter than she was but she's still weak behind. I'm hoping the Prascend trial will help. I miss riding my jaunty little Bambster, she hasn't looked strong enough to ride for over two months now. Not that I feel like doing much riding at the moment, looking after three in this weather and the short days is unrelenting enough without trying to ride as well. Hopefully we'll be ready to pick up where we left off come Spring Oh and then there was Christmas . I'm never the most organised, but even less so than usual this year. My Dad drove his car off our farm track on Christmas Eve (trying to do a three point turn - don't ask!) and I had to tow him out of the mud. Christmas Day started with the downstairs loo cistern exploding at 6 am, and with my parents and Ru's elderly mum here for lunch it was "interesting" having to turn the mains on and off every time someone needed a brew or the loo. And on Boxing Day I managed to lean three fingertips on the red hot halogen ring (idiot, trying to multi-task in the kitchen whilst exhausted and OH is taking up space cutting up the leftover turkey). We're going to stay with Ru's brother in Sussex over New Year, heading down there tomorrow weather permitting and coming back Wed. I've found a lovely lady to look after the horses, she's a newcomer to the area who has sold up her riding school in Scotland and bought a place just down the road - I met her when she needed a bat survey of her rickety roof. Lucky me to have such a useful and pleasant new neighbour . Hopefully I'll have a bit more time to check in here once we're back and the festivities are over. In the meantime, Happy New Year to everyone! Jan x

The New Year is only a couple of days away and hopefully 2014 will be a better year for you and your horses and I'll have my fingers crossed that your update will be a positive one. Despite everything I hope you had a good Christmas and weren't too frazzled by all that's going on.

I'm afraid it gets much, much worse. Our beloved working cocker Scamp was run over and killed on the lane last night shortly after arriving in Sussex. We are devastated, please think of us. It was just one of those things, Ru took him out for a little late walk and the dead straight lane was empty and silent. Unfortunately there was an unseen junction with another road, Ru hadn't seen it in the dark and Scamp wasn't on a lead - they're both free spirits and used to living a long way from traffic. The car appeared so suddenly and the driver had no chance of seeing a black dog on a black road, nose to the scent as always. It was just an unfortunate mis-judgement but Ru feels awful, awful about it. At least Scamp will have known nothing about it, the car was travelling at about 40 and he was killed instantly. So, so sad.
