It's a good job I was already going grey or I could blame it on Nutty.
Quick recap, rang the vets, he has antibiotics till Friday night, and asked if he needs more and does the vet need to speak to me blah blah blah. If I'm happy with Nutty just pick up more tablets Friday if not bring him up. Me and my big mouth, No says I he's fine pretty much 100% muscling up nicely then a load of happy proud mummy waffle, this was at 12.55 At 1.45 we are trying to get a dressing over his foot as there was copious amounts of blood EVERYWHERE, the hall dining room lounge kitchen and even up the kitchen cupboards and all over himself, he had broken a claw but it was still hanging there and each time we tried to get something on it he yelped and cried. The nail had to come off. I rang the vet and they had closed, emergency contact number only. when I rang she suggested we (if we could) pull it out. OMG he had nearly had a fit trying to get a dressing on it and bit OH. I got the muzzle and sort of laid over him while OH did the deed, It sounds really cruel but the only other option was taking him to a vet we didn't know in a town we're not familiar with and prolonging the agong, once the claw was out he was much happier, we cleaned and dressed his foot, OH carried him onto the sofa in the hopes that he would lay quietly, wrong as soon as we moved he was wandering about replacing the blood we had carefully cleaned up, quick trip to sainsburys for cotton wool and bandages to see us over the next few days and a nice line in grey gaffer tape so he can go outside.
After that I could have done with a lay down in a darkened room..............

Yikes and well done on the resourcefulness. Sounds like time for a G&T and a lie down. Hopefully tomorrow will be less eventful. x

Eek. They can be such a worry and that's before you even mention vets bills. Can't believe it's been that many claws lost. Have a lovely snuggle this evening and here's hoping for an uneventful Christmas. x

Well despite the club foot that Nutty is now sporting he's charging around like a lunatic again. OH feels so guilty that after banishing Nutty to the sofa and him settling there nicely for a week or two he's encouraged him back on the bed, hence I'm sitting in the dining room at 1.15am 'cos there's no flippin' room in the bed.
Note the slightly elevated club foot, I'm sure he's only doing it for effect

Oh dear poor boy. But knowing from my friends greys they are terribly accident prone. I know from my own dog/cat the wounds to the foot does tend to spray blood everywhere and the only consolation is that we become a dab hand in bandaging. Hope he and your nerves heel soon..

We had this with our lurcher. He had 2 lots of stitches, 1 lot of staples and a broken tooth removed in the first year! More than paid for his insurance! Thank goodness this has not been repeated in the other 3 years we have had him!

Oh, that is just the most fantastic Nutty pic. Poor boy. Hope he's on the mend now and that you've got your bed back!

Was wondering how Nutty is getting on. Hopefully everything has healed and you will be free from anymore probs for some considerable time.

We had this with our lurcher. He had 2 lots of stitches, 1 lot of staples and a broken tooth removed in the first year! More than paid for his insurance! Thank goodness this has not been repeated in the other 3 years we have had him! I wish that was all we had Nutty was injured coming over from Ireland and developed a lump on his elbow, the vet (nice vet) tried to drain with a syringe anti inflammatories and a/b's just as well as he managed to pull a claw out, the lump just refilled, then it was lanced by another vet (nasty one( he managed to nick an artery, it looked like a slaughter house in the back of the car, back to vet (nice one) pressure bandage etc redressing every day at vets 3 times a week. This didn't work either. It was decided to operate as nice vet (nasty one has now gone thankfully) thought the joint capsule was compromised and leaking fluid. Nutty was booked in for surgery then had a call they'd had a serious road traffic accident and couldn't do. Nutty did another claw, back for more pills. Rebooked for op, joint capsue split and leaking fluid, after the op only walking allowed, fine for a few days then he just went mad in doors back to vet minor op as he had to be restitched, healed beautifully. Cant remember when but at some point when he was on a/b's he did another claw. Nutty was fine till mid Nov, really ill with odd symptons, he was put on a drip and kept in overnight, started to pick up a bit as he could barely walk when he went in and temp was so high it was potentially fatal, finished a/b's and in 48hrs started going downhill, at vets first thing next morning and again odd symptoms but worse, he couldn't walk at all and his temp even higher, they had a job to cool him off, overnight stay again, loads more pills. The vet thinks it's menigitis, Nutty is fine in himself now but still on anti biotics, we're at week 5 of the 2nd lot of tablets which was just as bliddy well as he'd have probably needed them for his latest claw injury so I'm hoping for a trouble free year, I think we've done enough supporting our local very lovely vet.

Yes me too Gwen, I think if I didn't love him so much I'd wring his flippin' neck especially as last night Liz you'll be amused to hear he had even more of the bed, three times I moved him and each time he took over again in the end we had to 'be tough' and banish him to the sofa. It's a hard life being a dog
