Caroline, you know full well that the people responsible for the death of those mares are the people who put a short deadline on their necks and then put them to sleep before the deadline.
I think your own posts are doing more damage to your rescue appeals than the actions or posts of anyone else. Your underhand snipes at people who ride (clearly you think anyone who rides doesn't love horses as much as those who don't), those who in your eyes don't "have the love in their hearts" to take on an oldie, when actually most people simply can't afford to, and blaming admin when you knew what would happen before you posted, all just alienate the people you'll be wanting to appeal to later, then no doubt you'll wonder why you get so little response.

To be fair i think this is a very emotive subject. Its very hard on people that do rescue, i know how heartbreaking it can be the guilt you feel can be very hard on the person/s involved. I know a LOT of rescuers of all animals that do get sick to the back teeth of the human race (im one of them at times) and we do lash out when we feel that more could have been done or we feel that we have let the animal/s in question down. Hard times at the minute mean more and more animals needing and failing to get help. If i could take on more i would but i am now pushed to my limit. Life is sometimes very very unfair.

If one has something possibly anatomically wrong with her, is it fair to try and encourage someone to home her on the chance she'll be rideable? It would be lovely if there is someone who loves horses enough to give a home to one they can't get anything out of. I am equally inclined to judge the yard that is booting out these 2 horses and don't care if that is feet first with blood running down the ramp. It makes me extremely angry. But rescue is a constant battle against the evils of horrible people. And we learn to be polite to the bad people in order to get the animals to safety. However flawed the people are who throw animals out, the animals deserve better and they deserve life. A hundred years ago, horses were shot as soon as they could no longer work and retirement was rare. Back then, it was real work - transporting people and carts or carriages. Nowadays, horses are kept largely to massage egos and fulfill fantasies. Yet when they can't do that anymore, people are now just as ready to shoot them. I think that says something rather unpleasant about the human race and the current state of our relationship with horses. Human's may think that only the horses are the loosers in this state of affairs, but actually humans are loosers too. We may not loose our lives over it, but we lose out on the opportunity to have a very special loving and spiritual relationship with magnificent beings. Its hard to find words for what relationships with horses have given me, but I pity anyone who hasn't experienced it. That's the human cost of a materialistic and ego-driven approach to horses. its very very sad i have to agree with you tbh

Now in the days when I was looking for a companion to Zarello I would have had one of these. I would not have noticed the thread in this section, so I suppose we will never know if anyone would have found at least one a home if they were in the main threads... I know there are rules and mods must obey them BUT for something like this... would it have hurt anything to let this thread stay where it was for a while?
