Nope, not overreacting. I too would be beyond furious if someone rode my horse without my permission. Deep breath and act calm though even if you don't feel it and keep right firmly on your side

Definitely not overreacting....... I would have gone ballistic had someone put their grandchild on my pony, lame or otherwise - so what would the outcome have been had the grandchild fallen off and been injured?
I think you need to talk to all the other liveries and present a united front to this bonkers woman - she mustn't be allowed to spoil the joys of horse ownership for you and everyone else there, heaven knows it's an expensive hobby, and it's supposed to be fun!!

Not overreacting at all, if someone used my mare for pony rides, neither child or lady would be alive to tell the tale!!
As for the CCTV threats - maybe it would get evidence of her wrongdoings!!

You said she comes for the winter? Where do her ponies go in the spring? Not our field that's for sure I would be livid, hopefully Dougall is none the worse for his efforts. Ah go on, she could give us a poo picking lecture! I'll happily watch her showing me the 'right' way for hours ;D " I'm still not QUITE sure. Could you show me again.....and again.....and again. You can empty the barrow over there! " Lol ;D

Could be a way of getting shot of her? Everybody could just pester her constantly to 'show' them how to do stuff. She'll get so sick of you all that she'll pee back off from whence she came! ;D Nothing as annoying as the yard 'expert'.

Not over reacting imho. If possible could you go up to the yard at different times as well as your usual times?
We had an 'incident' with one of Clares horses when they were on a livery yard some years ago, became head shy, went to the back of the box when someone near the door, behaviour totally changed etc, etc.
Clare couldnt go up the yard in the daytime, but I could and I found out one or two things and politely, but firmly corrected the person, she never did it again because she never, ever knew when someone would be up there. It was a pain in the butt, but it worked, maybe worth a thought.

Oh how scary, your insurance wouldn't cover the consequences if anyone was injured using your ponies without your permission. Has she got adequate arrangements in place? No? well she could be sued.......

OMG I'm fuming on your behalf - I can't even begin to imagine how mad I would be if someone rode my pony without my permission - I'd have probably totally flipped and rang the police or a solicitor or anybody who would listen to me (I'm not saying that's what you should do LOL).
That is unbelievable - I have been at many livery yards and never heard of anyone riding someone else's horse without permission. A thousand times worse as poor pony was lame - absolutely disgusting - ooooohhhhh I'm so mad just thinking about it. She should be thrown off the yard immediately in my opinion. I think you should speak to all the other liveries and you should all speak to the farmer.

I would go MENTAL if someone rode my pony when I wasn't there/without my permission!! You are not over reacting at all. I would just tell her in no uncertain terms to leave my ponies and things alone and not speak to her again. Doesn't sound like you'll lose any friends over it! I can understand your situation as I know a woman exactly like that. I tried to put up with her for about 6 months (a record round here I think) but then I just lost it and she's left me alone since then.

I know how you feel as this happened twice to me. I found another yard as it was a no win situation. I arrived at the yard to find no pony, tack gone !! The yard owner had decided to take her grandaughter out for a ride on my pony. A few weeks later and the final straw her best friend son was cantering around arena perfecting his canter you guessed on my pony. I made it clear I was not happy, and things were never the same after that I got pulled up for this that and the other and my life made a misery so left and have never looked back. But it was the most awful time in my life. So no you are not over reacting.

No, not overreacting. The woman was not only being selfish and cruel to your pony but she was also being incredibly stupid and putting her grandchild in danger.
I'd seriously have a word with the yard owner. If they're horsey they should be just as disgusted as you are. If they're not you can very simply and politely explain that your pony is lame and therefore riding him is outright cruelty, and that riding someone's horse without permission means the owner can't be liable for damages, injury or death, but the yard owner might be if they knew about it and didn't make any attempt to stop it happening again. They should just tell her straight off that if she does it again she'll be evicted as it's only going to damage their livery business if she makes everyone else want to leave.

Nice to know my mental state is not in question!!! Thank you! I am still furious and as I read the posts on here and speak to other liveries, more things are coming up which I hadn't thought of, such as insurance issues etc. There is now a feeling on the yard that if she feels she can do this to Dougal, what else has she been doing to other horses, ponies, equipment that we don't know about. Quite unsettling. I am going to go and speak with the farmer again about what has happened. When I spoke to him before I told him the basics of what had happened, and he agreed she was out of order. This time I will make sure he know how dangerous and cruel she was and the legal/insurance implications. I will also make him aware that the others on the yard are now wondering what else she may have done in our absence. The lady is due to take her ponies home in April where she has a paddock sufficient to keep them on for part of the year, but there's a feeling she may decide to keep one of them at our yard permanently as she likes the facilities. Fingers crossed that won't happen! I do love the idea of farming her out to teach you all how to poo pick. Would get rid of her from our place and you'd all have lovely clean fields!! I can dream!!
