Well having spoken to them private non businesses are going to be rateable from as soon as the council finds you. I still think it will be dependent on how keen the individual councils are on getting extra revenue - the H&H forum case was in 2009 and the law has not changed since then to my knowledge, it is a case of where priorities lie.

What I will say is that the planning department of the old Macc Borough Council before it became part of Cheshire East, was *notorious* as far as granting planning permission was concerned. Do not assume that the planning person you have met with fully understands what they are saying, and do not assume that these planning restrictions cannot be argued against successfully. We pay business rates at Springfield, and quite right, as we do run a business from it. But, although the council are more than happy to take the income from the Business Rates, they will not allow us anything other than 'domestic' use as far as our need to build new stables is concerned. Planning departments really do like to have their cake and eat it.
And - Specialized - whatever do you mean about rich horse owners in Cheshire? My tiara nearly fell off when I read that! ;D

My tiara nearly fell off when I read that! ;D It's all about perception - my tongue was firmly in my cheek Unfortunately for those living in Cheshire there are many who automatically think 'Footballers' Wives' - probably including the council.
