Got catapulted off my youngster yesterday after a series of enormous bronks... Bumped head and got concussion but was wearing the air jacket I just bought last month (I bought the hit-air one). I actually cannot believe it there is not a bump, bruise, ache or pain anywhere on my body and it was a pretty nasty fall. I never ride in the body protector I have as it's too bulky (stupid I know) hence buying the air jacket and I really cannot praise it enough. Yes its expensive but mine has paid its way already, seriously saved me yesterday and instead of being in pain and having to take it easy (or worse) I'm sat at work today no probs and will be riding tomorrow. If you're thinking about getting one of these, do it!!!

I had planned on buying one when I restart my youngster in a couple of months time but I came off my friends horse on Boxing Day in a kind of freak situation and I am still pretty achy. I landed on my lower back and got a wee bit of whip lash so I will be ordering an air jacket this week. I do have a normal bp but I just won't wear it on a every day basis, it's far too hot and restrictive.
I will no doubt set it off by accident but it will be worth it for me

I swear by mine, they are worth their weight in gold! Antares - I'd be amazed if you could set it off accidentally ;-)

Lol I will probs dismount without detaching, I am really really forgetful but I'm sure the purchase of a few canisters will help my memory!

Dismounting won't set it off! Unless your horse is 18hh and you fall off like a lump of lead ;-)

thats great news sarahandrieu - glad you are feeling ok but be a bit careful of the concussion! Antares - I have now dismounted without detaching mine 3 times and its not gone off. My horse is only 15hh so that definitely helps! Also a good reminder as mine is hanging in the closet at the moment - reminder to self to put it on next time I get on!

Spot of new year retail therapy in the pipeline, I reckon! Where did you get your Hit-Air jacket from and which one did you get, if you don't mind me asking? MTA: Great that you survived relatively unscathed - I agree with Curlytobiano though about being very careful about the concussion..

I love my Point 2. Never ride without it. I've dismounted (intentionally) and forgotton to unclip the jacket and it has never gone off but I am tall and Ari is 15.1 hh .

Where's the best place to buy one and is Hit Air better than the Point Two do you think?

I got a hit air for my Christmas present. They're cheaper than the point two and I like the fact they inflate outwards and you can do it up pretty tight over anything from a t shirt to a rigid BP because they're so adjustable.
I haven't tried it yet because we're walking out in hand at the moment but have promised my OH I will wear it whenever I hack out.
I bought it on the internet from the manufacturers website.

Kelly I think the jury is out on that one! Personal preference is very much the key
Is there somewhere you can go and try them both out? Maybe someone who as tried both can comment, neither are available locally to me so I'm just gonna have to plump for one and hope its right

Point two for me and if you buy from them directly you get a very good new year deal at the moment

My understanding is that the Hit-Air equestrian jacket is from a company that has been making them for motorcyclists for years. Their jackets inflate outwards and come down low to cover your lower spine and also high round the neck to prevent whiplash. The Point 2 is a newer company and jacket inflates inwards so for a few seconds you are quite constricted until it starts to deflate again. It also looks to me like the airbags don't come down as low on the body as the Hit-Air - and I'm long in the body anyway so when I have saved, I'm going for the former rather than the latter.

Sounds like the Hit-Air might be the one to suit me best. Thank you for this.

I have the point two and it goes below the base of my spine. Never had the constriction problem when it inflates. I certainly recommend them. Never tried the hit air so cant comment on them. Only thing i would say is remember to clip them on! I always have but yesterday did a whole ride and didnt realise i hadnt clipped it on until i got back. Really wouldnt have been much use in a fall!! I must double check from now on. Sent from my GT-S5690 using proboards
