I am hoping you might have some creative and fairly cheap ideas.
My horses have been in 24/7 now for over a week because the fields are wet. Not my decision and my mum and I are very angry. Not looking like they will be out again any time soon. Understandably Lady is getting bored and a bit naughty cause she is young and Ellie just looks miserable because before we got her she was out 24/7. Mums mare is looking pretty bored too.
Can I make stable toys? What is suitable? I have a decahedron (sp?) treat ball but only one so they have to take it in turns at the moment. lol.

we have same problem Rugrat - including my 18 month old colt! We are able to graze in hand for a while each day but it is a nightmare. Good and cheap solution is to drill a hole in a swede and hang it up with a bit of string so they eat it, but it takes a little while as it dangles away from them when they try to bite. also putting bits of cut up carrot in a haynet for them to find is interesting I guess. Can't offer much other advice but lots of moral support - it is desperate. Just pray for the weather to improve SOOON!!!

Ditto ct re swede, although it never lasted particularly long for my welsh cob (who at one point was at a yard where they got 4 hous turn out whatever the weather during winter, but that was it through the entire winter. Not the perfect situation, but needs must...) who always managed to eat it very quickly even dangling in the middle of the stable so it couldn't be pushed against a wall to keep it still! I used to also chop bits of carrot and swede and scatter them through his bed for him to pick through and find. Two nets (double haylage net) of hay and really good barley straw mixed and hung on opposite sides of the stable so they never run out of feed. Whole swede in the hay nets, in the middle of the hay/straw to find and nibble at between the netting. Clicker training when there for 20 min sessions so that they have to really think.

I don't know if you can still get them but they used to sell a ball for horses where you put some food in it and they have to push it around to get the food out. Might help!

Thanks guys.
Sophy. I have one of the balls but I got the decahedron (sp?) because it is a bit harder to get the treats out compared to the round ones. I may need to get another one so they have one each.
I did give them a swede xmas day. Lady liked it and ate it slowly. Ellie LOVED it and somehow yanked it off the twine and rolled it around her stable as she ate it. She even threw it out the door at one point. I will be getting more of them but dont know if you can give them everyday?
Ellie has her nets double netted anyway to try and slow her down. Both have had straw too because they are chunky monkeys at the moment and having near constant hay isnt helping. lol. Lady let me know how bored she wa yesterday by throwing the wheelbarrow over (she actually lifted it off the ground) and chucking a poop scoop at my head! She is only 2 1/2 herself so is just young, bored and throwing a wobbly. I just put all the tools out of reach. lol.
