Can you turn out in the cordura ones? (Before I spend a vast amount of money!) Just wondering if it's worth investing in a set to keep legs swamp-free, keep MF at bay and save swilling mud off each night. I don't need to wrap at night.

The worry I have about any kind of leg covering in a muddy field is that it provides warm and wet environment, just what bacteria need to thrive (my vet agrees BTW). If you can't avoid wet, at least don't keep it warm, the bacteria won't do as well in cold and wet.

Yes I see your point Jill... do they not keep the wet out though? (I'm a leg wrap virgin!)

I very much doubt any wraps would stop damp seeping in from the bottom? For that you would need boots which extend to above the fetlock, and that would lead to all sorts of fungal foot infections I would think. I imagine wraps are for warmth in dryish turnout, but I could be wrong, I only have a set of leg warmers for horses in shock or extreme cold.

No - the thermatex ones are for stable use or travelling, defo not for turnout.
There are special turnout wraps, but like others I would be wary of them, as if mud and wet DO get in the boots, then it is trapped there against the skin, so making things worse. I'd smother clean legs with pig oil/baby oil/similar if you're worried, as this will help to repel water and keep skin cleaner.

Thanks - yes I'm getting through a fair amount of pig oil at the mo, and still using a squib of hypocare, which isn't cheap. It's not easy sorting the legs of a disco dancer is it, lol! ;D
