Blimey, it's been a while since I updated on here! The first big thing was I finished my Honours degree (BSc (Hons) in biochemistry) with a first class pass, and it's all finished! I am in the process of looking for PhD positions, but I am taking some time off to travel (my friend and I are hitting up Canada and the UK next May) and decide really what I want to do.
The second is that as I finished up north, both Tally and I made the big journey back down to Levin (8 or so hour drive). A couple of days before I left, one of the volcanoes in the central North Island erupted, then the day Tally left, a tornado hit Auckland. It didn't want us to leave!
Firstly, Tally!
My friend continued to take some spectacular photos. This one in particular I love, and plan to get it framed.
My snuggly little boy
We did some jumping
Pretended we could still do dressage
Tally was *annoying*!
We spent a lot of time hacking out with my friend (the same friend who does all the wonderful photography, and who looked after Tally so brilliantly for me, and who I am going to Canada etc with!).
Unfortunately due to spring grass and a lack of work, he came down with laminitis and ended up locked up in a dry lot for a few weeks. Thankfully, he came right, even after he worked out how to undo the fence and let himself onto the grass most nights!
His unhappiness really radiated.
I then moved home to Levin, and Tally followed a couple of weeks later. He travelled really well, and has settled in again. He's going really nicely considering his lack of schooling over the last 9 months
Relaxing in the shade. We've been having utterly spectacular (a little too spectacular, it's very dry!) weather this December.
Dressage is still possible
I do miss my spectacular hacking, but it is nice to have my boy just outside whenever I want to ride. I'm hoping to even get him out sometime this summer if he stays sound and sane.
Aside from the horses, prior to leaving, my friend and I made a big road trip up to Cape Reinga, which is the north end of New Zealand.
The Pacific Ocean side
The Tasman Sea side
Meeting in the middle
My friend's very talented photography (using the same camera, I managed to take a photo of my foot and I'm not sure how).
Mangawhai Heads
And yet more scenic Northland
We also made it down to the red carpet premiere of The Hobbit in Wellington
(The utterly GORGEOUS Richard Armitage)
Hopefully I won't be as lax on updating now that I have (a lot) more spare time. I'll sort out the rest of the photos later.
