The decisions will come over time as you piece together what has happened and how best to tackle it. I went through similar when Gazdag went over backwards with me, I took several days to take stock and decide what to do. I was oddly calm on the day too, I insisted that the girls on the yard tack him back up as I was adament that I was getting back on and being led around! The next day I was in A&E getting diagnosed with two sprained ankles and then went home and sobbed into my Rice Krispies when the shock kicked in..... Glad you got good help from the Air Ambulance. My boyfriend is a doctor who volunteers for the Air Ambulance, they do a great job and I'm very proud of him :-)

Yes Jan effluvient and evanescent. Nothing wrong with a long story! I am sure you could get effervescent with a little champagne - we may wait a while for that one! OUCH - it HURTS when I laugh ;D ;D ;D

The Air Ambulance crew were fantastic. It's the second time in our little farm community we've had cause to be very grateful for the service. Neither injury turned out to be life threatening but both could have been, and both happened well away from vehicular access and then almost an hour's drive to the nearest A&E hospital. We do support the air ambulance, and this is a reminder of just how vital a service they provide to rural communities.

I know, and a lot of people are surprised when they find out that most doctors who work on Air Ambulances are unpaid for their Air Ambulance work! The paramedic staff are paid, but the doctors aren't and they will be the ones to sedate and anaesthetise patients as paramedics aren't qualified to handle those drugs. My boyfriend does regular shifts for them but they will also call on him to respond as an emergency if they arrive on scene without a doctor and it transpires that they need one. His car has blue lights and sirens fitted, I love driving it as it looks IDENTICAL to an unmarked police car that Lincs Police have and no-one dares overtake you, it's hysterical.... ;D

Hope you feel better soon Jan, it sounds horrid! A couple of months ago I took out a DD donation to our local air ambulance, the week before last my daughter who is up at Uni had a nasty fall from a horse at the Riding Club and the air ambulance came out to her. When, under the influence of the morphine, she proudly told the paramedics that we subscribe they told her it shouldn't be looked upon as a booking fee! nice to see that they have a good sense of humour even in the direst of circumstances! ;D Rrosie x

I think humour is what keeps them sane when dealing with often horrible circumstances. OH went to a lady who'd been kicked in the chest by a horse on his last shift and he and one of the paramedics spent a while referring to the horse's hooves as "paws" to wind her up.... I guess if you can make people laugh it takes their mind off their pain a little!
Gazdag's hooves are now referred to at home as paws and his saddlecloths have been renamed as "loincloths"....

Oh my goodness... you know how to do things in style then don't ya now!! No Thorntons Special Toffee for you in the near future....just 'liquid' refreshment eh.... bit of what you fancy does you good!
No seriously,...glad to hear both parties have come out of this relatively OK,... hope you heal and mend very soon and feel better in the near future...
As for Lucas.. well,.. time will tell and maybe it's just best to start at the beginning again with the front boots first and over time,..lunge him in them perhaps in the faster gaits in an enclosed area maybe..? Then if he's gonna had a funny turn, you're safe and sound until he's worked out that 'these boots are made for walking'....(LOL....sorry about bursting into song there,....just couldn't resist that one!).
Keep us up to date JanWilky... on both yourself and Lucas...

Sending healing and hope you benefit from a fully functional jaw soon.
If it's any consolation. The bucking probably wasn't directed at you, but was a concerted attempt to dislodge the hoof boots. As someone has already suggested, working him un–ridden in them will help him sort out his feelings!
I feel my £5 a month is well spent!
