Heya
I have heard of 2 more polo ponies looking for a home. First one is a 15hh+ mare. 19yrs. Safe sane forward going ride. free to good home.
Second is a 14.2hh palomino 20yr old gelding. Dont know as much about him.
If anyone wants any details then let me know.

It's difficult isn't it, because there are probably a few of us who can offer temp places to buy them some time for a new owner but is that just a cheap way off previous owner off loading them?
More details would be good though so we can circulate and network their info. Having seen an advert for a SJ mare, owners only had it 2 weeks and are novice owners (£3k horse).....are polo ponies better suited to more experienced homes or are they all very individual?

With anything I suppose it depends on the horse, the level they played at, how long they played.
As with racehorses if they've played for a while there are likely to be the usual aches, sprains and issues that go hand in hand with an old horse who's had a full working life.
I used to ride my friend's, she was sharp but safe, wouldn't call her spooky but she could be like a coiled spring to ride at times. Brakes were an issue as she was used to being ridden in polo kit. But of course that's just the one, there is a polo pony at my yard who does a bit of everything and has just returned from a week hunting in Exmoor.

I recently got a Polo pony through Rugrat mentioning him on here. He is a lovely gelding and a great hack sensitive and responsive one of the easiest horses I have ever looked after. I think they have alot to offer . I have worked with polo ponies when I was younger. If I was after another horse I would get another Polo pony. But I have 3 horses now and that is my limit.

I find it really sad that 19/20yo ponies are 'disposed of' like this when they have ceased to be of any use, as others have said it is an easy way to off-load the responsibility.

See I have no problem with having oldies. In fact I would rather have something older than younger these days as I do not bounce like I used to. I will be in the market for something similar soon but on a very limited budget so if anyone knows of anything?
