Well, I don't know how anyone else feels, but it's a sad day to see his last post on the thread (now locked) regarding TWH. The majority of us here don't question your positively intentioned, life long, soul deep commitment Monty and I think that was a very comprehensive reply to a tough question. You took it like an open hearted friend to this DG. 77, and extremely busy getting on with your work at the front lines of many welfare issues, that was good of you to take so much time to talk to the DG. I read around the TWH issue and clearly there are some good people inside and outside the breed interest, who are taking the rogues on head on, changing standards, law and methods for detection of chemical abuse of the feet. Good to know.

totally agree and monty and kelly really inspired me with my horse bea who if i had listened to some with her issues at the start prob wouldnt be here today i never posted on the thread as i knew nothing about stacks and the traditions over there and the use of them but thought that as they had asked monty to work with one of there horses in the first place they were open to possible change and have since looked up stacks etc so i could learn about then

+1 with Kanga. For the last 11 years, Monty and his methods have inspired and motivated me to do the best I can for my horse, from being a novice nervous first horse owner at livery to having the confidence to now keep a small herd at home including first foal this year. Love from your biggest fan in France :-) xxx

Yes and I'm very sad about that even though my current beliefs are that the laws about it should be vigorously upheld. In all this it seems lost that soring is illegal. It isn't just a dodgy and cruel practice, it is against the law.
I have always had huge admiration for Monty's efforts and the distress he puts himself through and admire his work with the TWH horses. I can sit here in the safety of my kitchen and spout rubbish but I do realize you work tirelessly out there with owners and horses and this is something only special humans can do. I hope you do go Monty along with representatives from the societies you mention and I hope you can continue to change minds. Hpoefully you can influence about the stacks and way of going.
I just want the law upheld.

With Kanga as well, I think it's sad when someone is trying to help the cause and try and show them it's its not a good practice. I believe Monty does wonderful things for humans and Horses. I'm also a big fan of his.x

If some of the posters had the perception of kayti, they would have noticed the sensitivity to the horse's needs that he shows.
If you alienate people, you can never change them, if you accept them you can work with them to change their practices that you dislike. Acceptance of an evil person, does not mean acquiescence to their evil deeds.

Throughout history, people have tried to shoot down the person who is openly trying to make change for the good of others------------------

I hadn't posted on the thread as I felt I didn't really know enough about the issues surrounding TWH to comment validly, but I was following the topic. I was pleased that Monty replied so promptly and was moved to tears by the sincerity within his response. I know that Monty must have felt hurt by some of the posts. I'm sure nobody on here would have deliberately set out to cause him upset. When we love animals as much as we all do, and then are confronted by these scenes of awful cruelty by some TWH owners, knee jerk reactions occur. Human nature and all that! Monty - if I end my days having done 100th of the wonderful things that you have done for horses and humans, I will die happy. You are an inspiration Much love xxxxxxxxxxxx BJM

I wonder how many of us have done things with the very best of intentions that have then been misinterpreted after the event.
It is virtually impossible to change someone's way of thinking unless there is some dialogue and it appears from reading Monty's initial response there was a change in methods but sadly it was short lived however, maybe as uncomfortable as it looked for the horse that visit did produce some change and hopefully the annual TWH meeting will provide another opportunity for Monty to help stamp out for ever these cruel methods.

I didn't join the original post as I don't know enough about TWH or the issues surrounding their welfare, but just wanted to support Monty and say thank you for all that you do for the horses across the world xx

It saddens me deeply to see Monty having to defend his actions repeatedly on this DG.
Monty if you see this thread you are my inspiration, you never fail to humble me and have shown me how to be a better person. Every time I see you or read your work I come away knowing I have the ability to be more generous and patient and that any obstacles I unwittingly choose to place in my own path on this journey pale to insignficance compared to those you have encountered. I've barely even spoken to you (I'm usually one of those numpties who just grins manically when I see you!) but to me your integrity is clear to see. I believe you are also a heck of a lot braver than most of us in doing your daily work. Much love, Michelle xx

I have not watched this so am not going to comment on its contents. I can understand peoples thoughts though, but this looks to have caused a witch hunt at the time, that is the problem with things like youtube, you only see what the poster wants you to see, so it becomes out of context. If someone was actually there and saw the full "story" and the heard the discussions between owner & Monty they may have a different view on the clip. How many times have people been up in arms about something or other in the news, or youtube, twitter facebook etc. which was taken out of context just a sound bite or a short film clip can ruin someones life or reputation as it is not the complete story of what happened or didnt happen.

I think the saying Damned if you do, damned if you don't is quite apt here!!
We can all sit here behind our screens and say how terrible the TWH people are, and how appalling it is the way the horses are treated - yet what changes? Nothing!! But Monty managed to get involved with them and had a real opportunity to help these poor horses. We don't know how many horses are now not suffering due to Monty's work, but hopefully slowly, slowly he will be able to educate these people that there is a better way.
I did not comment on the original post as no I didn't like the look of the video, the horse seemed very uncomfortable - but I read some of the replies and then Monty's reply and accepted that he was there for the good of the horse, and being holier than thou would have got him and the horses nowhere! You cannot make people like that change overnight, they have to have a lightbulb moment and it may take them a while to realise there is a better way.
We could all have pictures or videos of us posted that show the 'not so great moments' of when things go wrong!
I do not feel Monty needs to further comment on this nor does he owe any of us an apology!! When I am perfect then I will preach, until then I will continue to learn.

I too didn't respond to that other thread. Not because I didn't know enough about twh but because there were some posters who seemed unable to take a balanced view and I am not currently up to arguing a point where the other side Don't want to accept that there is more than one way to do things.
Anyway, seeing Monty working with horses is what got me interested in none traditional methods, here is a man with vast experience and who is out to help horses wherever he can. He certainly does not come across as a person who wants to harm horses or who is ok with others harming them and I trust his judgement on this case the same as I do on other cases.
I thank monty for sending his messages to the dg on that thread although feel saddened that he had to defend himself so rigorously on the dg

O come on, where is the faith? Good old Mont has never let us down before? Without him, we wouldn't have anywhere near the knowledge and understanding of our great horsey friends would we?! We wouldn't even have Kelly McMarks, as he discovered her.... Long Live Mont I say.
