Please help for my IH Website Revamp!
Either a 'straight statement' or
a case study of how it has helped you or
feel free to right some quirky/not what people would think of immediately ...
Someone might have a story "well I was originally sceptical because ... but then I found that ...
Thank you for your help in advance! I have little pockets of time for these improvements and up to Monty coming for February tour is one of them!

IH means that I can do anything I need to with my ponies single handedly, calmly and easily

I to me means exactly was it says. An Intelligent look at horsemanship. It means that there is no set doctrine on how to train your horse. It is completely dependant on the horse as long as any training is conducted in a calm and respectful way.

I'm new to IH and not totally there yet. I was introduced by Jen Abery at our yard and was very skeptical at first. Jen has helped me with my nervous youngster and has made me realise there is another way, very calm need lots of patience but the results are amazing. My youngster is now backed and we are now working on his spooking issues.
The other day I went to help a friend who is 'traditional' with her youngster I used the dually and the techniques I've been shown and seen at the demos managed to get his rug of (known to rear when you try this) touch and groom him all over and pick all 4 feet up this was all done very calmly but with me remaining in control. I was amazed at what I'd managed to do and it was at this point I realised how far I'd come and how much I've learned ...... still a long way to go though but the feeling was amazing and it made me cry.

I was originally sceptical because I thought IH was all about Monty's methods and that Monty's methods were all about dealing with problem horses - and I didn't have a problem horse.
It's been a revelation going on the IH courses and reading Perfect Manners and Perfect Partners, there is so, so much more to IH and the vast majority of it is relevant to every horse owner.
I think the best thing I've learned from IH is to read the horse, in the past I missed so much of what was really going on because I didn't know how to recognise the smallest of signals the horses give us constantly.

training / communicating with horses by learning THEIR language instead of expecting them to learn ours.
I think this applies to all animal training, it's up to us humans to understand the way the animal works if we want to work with it. Animals are quite happy without us people, it's us people who want the animals, so the onus is on us to do the work.

IH was 'the missing link' for me. When you take force out of horsemanship, it's the bridge between kindness and effectiveness.
I also love that it's not just a training method, it's a way of interacting with and understanding ALL horses (very important if you don't have your own horse). It's very accessible and affordable (through books, DVDs, social media and courses) and teaching methods/learning environment created on courses and by RAs are so supportive it's achievable for everyone.
Not very catchy or pithy I'm afraid but what it means to me.

The biggest thing it has done for me is made me realise HAVING A HORSE IS MEANT TO BE FUN!! So when I used to get so upset and stressed about not being very good at showjumping, or my horse not going round on the bit in the past when everyone said it was the most important thing, IH made me realise that the MOST improtant thing in reality IS having fun and enjoying your horses company and not worrying about what everything else thinks!!!!.........even tho my horse still won't load

To me, IH means: use your brain when dealing with horses! It's the one feature we've been given that is superior to that of other creatures on this earth. If something isn't working in your training approach? Stop, reflect and try a different way to make it as easy as possible for your horse to succeed.
I know there are certain tools and methods associated with IH (e.g. the Dually or Join-Up), but I perceive IH really more as a collection of smart heads that are very good at coming up with solutions to training challenges and are always open to new ideas. I find that this sets IH apart from other "schools" of training that can be rather rigid or cookie-cutter, one-way-fits-all-horses.

IH was 'the missing link' for me. When you take force out of horsemanship, it's the bridge between kindness and effectiveness. I like this and feel similar. 1) Putting the horses' point of view central to horsemanship and learning to train effectively. 2) Taking anger and frustration out of horsemanship by understanding how to train yourself and your horse. 3) Learning training basics and applying in an empathic well thought out way with inspiration from many sources. I will avoid rambling on about "force".

Many many years ago when I was very young and working at riding stables, I instinctively used IH methods - obviously without knowing what IH was, and probably quite a crude version. IH in the last 10 years has taught me how to refine what came naturally, and expand my knowledge & horsemanship in myriad ways and areas - I am incredibly lucky to be in such good company with all the other IH minds here, and so are our horses (and mules, donkeys etc!) It's about constant learning & teaching in practice I'm not implying I'm any sort of expert but at least I try my best!!

IH isn't about people with problem horses it's about helping horses to cope with people problems x
